Not of Nardil.
But of 2 Anti Psychotics, an Anti depresant and a stimulabt.

I am much better off than when I was on them, but have lingering effects.

If you want My advice,

Do it slooooooowly. Be careful. Get someone to help you. Read up on it. Exercise, eat well, look after yourself.

It is a dangerous thing to do, to come of meds.

oh, I still have the same problems I took meds for, but the meds didn't help. They made it much worse.

I'm with Huxley - better off without meds than with. Am I "well"? Depends on your definition. I'm me, and learning to accept that fact.

I love that statement.Wouldnt it be good if pdocs began to help us learn to accept ourselves, instead of using the rx pad?

Mine seems not to use the RX pad. I know that many conditions do require life long treatment. I think I'm in the habit or that I'm looking to feel like I did before thyroid and the meds I was then prescribed as me and low dose benzos did fine. I also think this is true of most docs with all conditions. Experienced this yesterday. Phillipa

I think if your problem is moderate that therapy is recommended first. That's how I started. When the therapist saw that I wasn't improving she introduced me to a psychiatrist.
We met twice before he prescribed anything.
That's the best case scenario I think and even then I could have said that I didn't want meds. But I was in no position to say that, I was sick.

I think we have to educate ourselves in matters of healthcare. Especially with the internet, these answers are out there and, if we find ourselves hating psychiatry, well, why did you take that route? Were you sick enough to need meds or did you want meds?

People don't despise just psychiatrist but most disciplines of medicine. And at least a small portion of med problems have to be aimed at GP's, gynecologists and other non-qualified doctors that had no business prescribing them in the first place.

I'm playing devils advocate, not pointing fingers.

Psychiatrists have as much or more schooling than other doctors yet they make near the bottom of doctor pay rates. They could have chosen dermatology and made way more.

I have to think that they chose what they did out of a desire to help. The good ones do help. But the simple fact is, is that it's much more cut and dried for a surgeon to remove a gall bladder than for a psychiatrist to deal with the most complex organ in the body.

I'm just upset that I was not told of the harsh withdrawal(for some)associated with benzo tapering.I was given an rx for klonopin with no info/warnings.I would have liked to have been counseled on that.I do have to say that it has helped me,but how do I know I wouldnt have gotten better eventually without it?

I think I said something on that, not sure. But yeah, I wish I would have been told that this drug will fix a lot of problems but this is what you'll be looking at if you ever want off.

Knowing me I would have still taken it but at least I would have known the bad side.

I probably did know actually because I was on this site then.

it's a love/hate relationship ive developed with k.Of course, she prescribed what she thought best for my symptoms, and it certainly has been the best.I think Im just mad at myself that Im not strong enough to taper it.However,my pdoc hasnt given me her protocol to taper, maybe I will tell her next time of my difficulty.

I tried to go off Lithium once. I just ended up in the hospital.

Some of us do not have the luxury to tell off 'psychiatry'

I have been off of Nardil for 5 days now. Cold Turkey...

I ended up in the hospital multiple times.. but it seems to not have helped alot. Nardil has led me to do some pretty crazy things in my life.

I have gone off whatever I was on a few times, because I was feeling horrible--mixed, depressed--and I figured why pay the copays if they were not going to work. Unfortunately I got much worse. Sometimes I read my journal from therapy back before I was on meds (mine should have recommended them, but never did) and I can't believe the things I did and said, the kinds of states I endured on a daily basis.

1 Week after cold turkey nardil cessation

Its almost been a week now since Nardil 90->0.

I notice that i have dreams which are not the most pleasant ones.
Im grieving over a particular girl/woman... where love is sure still there but which didnt work out like we wanted it

Im at my moms and will go to my own place again soon.

If i get suicidal i will go somewhere were people can watch me. Not necessarily (hopefully not) but potentially a psyche hospital.

If you guys have some well meant advice or just want to make me feel less lonely with my path, please go ahead. Dont freak me out though more than i am already. Thanks

I, too, went off nardil cold turkey. From 120mg daily to zero. I was getting no benefits from nardil anymore and my sleep architecture was aweful. I felt tired all the time. Going off nardil was one of the hardest things I ever did, but ultimately proved to be on of the best things I ever did. I now take over the counter suplements and feel much much better. B1, B2, magnesium, tryptophan and GABA. My sleep is prestine.

There is a role for medication. It once saved my life, literally. But the benefits imparted by anidepressants fade with time, as is now well understood. And in my case, the negative side effects of the medication eventually outweighted the deminishing benefits.

Best of luck to you and I wish you as much success as I eventually found.
