Hi Michael,

Are you still taking Cyloserine? I'm very curious to know if it's still working for you. I've tried high-dose Glycine which works similarly to D-cycloserine with some mild success before but it's a pain to take such high doses(15-60g/day). I probably would have had better results with the Glycine if I would have consistently took 30-60g/day.

I'm really interested in Cycloserine. I know of a couple places to order it... I just don't have the money right now though. Please reply back. Thanks.

Hi Tgo,
Have you had a chance to try it yet? Are you taking it for social anxiety? I'd love to hear your impressions.
What country do you live in?

Has the drug got approval for use in anxiety conditions yet?
Thanks

I live in the U.S. My nurse practitioner wrote me a script for it off-label, as she called it. No, it's certainly not approved for anxiety yet and will probably take years. It's expensive, like $126 for the script of 30 250 mg capsules, so I ordered online at a better price and haven't received it yet. I'll have to break down the capsules to 25 or 50 mg each.

I will be taking it for social anxiety. I'll let you know how it works as soon as I receive it!

Hi Michael and tgo! If you're still watching this thread, could you please give us your feedback on the substance? Did you combine it with CBT therapy as suggested in research papers on it?

Thanks!

I took it several times. It worked great the first time and ok the next and then it did practically nothing after that.

How did you get it on your own? Where? Any contraindications anyone knows of? Would it be reasonable to try for Major depression and PTSD -- it sounds like it would. Also, I was reading that it erases chronic pain memory and emotional memory -- would you agree, based on your experience of taking it so far??

I have not taken it but my impression would be this.(for ptsd, i do not see a role in depression) It could be used like yohimbe: it could help overwrite bad memories if used under careful supervision during therapy. I would try to find someone experienced with that, and have them talk to your doctor to get you a prescription to use during the therapy. I think it might make things worse if used on your own. I have seen some papers that say high does actually reduces anxiety, but has very fast tolerance. good luck. I am curious for first hand experiences.

can anyone tell me what dosage of cycloserine i should try? the brand name is coxerin, i hope that is d-cycloserine. i have had one eye cataract surgery and the trauma was terrible-now being on eye drops (another trauma) i think if i take this maybe it will help with the big one-because i need the other eye done. i am only now after ten days even beginning to consider having the second operation. my first thought was who needs both eyes, one is enough.

or beyond that, what can i take prior to surgery that will suppress conditioned fear response from the amygdala but not affect my vital signs or level of consciousness and clarity? something that doesnt need to be taken for two weeks prior, just one dose and need to know what time to take it before the operation...

Hi Rag Doll

Welcome to Psycho-Babble. I haven't heard of cycloserine, but I hope someone will be able to answer your question.

Sorry to hear that cataract surgery was traumatic for you. I know benzodiazapines are good for anxiety. I'm not sure whether or not they affect vital signs. I know they can make you sleepy, but that might depend on the dose. Is there any way your doctor can give you a benzo before the surgery?

My pdoc doesn't give me benzos, probably because they can be addictive, but I see no problem with just taking benzos one time.

For anxiety I take propranolol, which is very good at getting rid of the racing heart, sweating and trembling of anxiety. It doesn't affect the mind at all, but I find just not having the physical symptoms of anxiety calms me down a lot. It does affect your vital signs though so I'm not sure if that would be a problem for you. You would need to ask your doctor.

hi deneb-
thanks for the welcome. i see that someone posted they had 250 mg tablets and cut into 25 mg portions. have you any idea how they managed that?

anyway, i also thought propranolol would be good to take before surgery from some things i have read. it is supposed to block the stress response for fear, and who knows where the fear comes from, the mind first or the body reactions. it sounds like the safest bet so far, except for not knowing what dosage for this purpose.

actually, if you are taking it for anxiety your dosage should be correct...do you mind telling me what dosage you have been taking? do you happen to know if it would take effect right away? i read you have to taper off when you stop, which indicates it takes time to leave the system. does that mean it should also be started two weeks before i need it? any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how they cut the 250 mg tablets into 25 mg portions. It would seem impossible to just split the pill as 25 mg is much smaller than 250 mg. Maybe they crushed it, added a filler and calculated how much would equal 25 mg? I don't know, that seems to be the only way that would be accurate.

I really like propranolol myself. You do not have to take it 2 weeks in advance. Propranolol works right away, just take it about 30 mins or an hour before you want it to work. You do not need to taper off propranolol if you are just using it occassionally. You only need to taper if you use it everyday. I take 40 mg of propranolol as needed for my anxiety. Some people only need 20 mg. Propranolol has a large dose range. I think some people who take it to lower their blood pressure take like 100 mg or more.

Let me know what you decided to take.

all i can get are capsules of 250 mg. they have inside a fine white powder. does anyone know if i can divide it up and how to take it if i dont have any empty capsules? should i buy some innocuous cheap capsules and empty them and use them for arbitrarily measured smaller doses?

Michael,

I was very interested by your report of D-Cycloserine's unique effects. I hope you're still doing well!

I looked it up on Psycho-Babble after reading this fascinating study:

What do you think of this data in terms of your personal experience?

Thanks,

Where, how can I get some of this? D-cycloserine sounds like the magic bullet I have been waiting for ever since I was bitten by a deer tick decades ago.

Just wondering, would this be considered an alternative treatment? Maybe it should be posted in PB Alternative as well?

Phillippa,

It shouldn't be too hard to convince your doctor to try it, especially if you've been refractory to conventional treatments, it's just an antibiotic, or try a few walk in clinics to expedite things, presenting with some properly described conventional symptoms that indicate its use. Tell them it's the only antibiotic you don't get intolerable side effects from (and properly describe these side effects) no one should suspect you of covertly trying to ease your actual suffering (somehow that's deceitful--lol) even the truth shouldn't bother most doctors, it's not a scheduled substance so no one should suspect you of "junkie trickery" and I don't think there are many contraindications. Dose seems important and the duration of treatment (4 weeks are necessary at least, I think). Let me know if it helps!

Ill look into this too, it sounds really promising

I got some from my doctor some years ago and it did nothing for me. Though I wonder if I was taking it right.
