DARS today. Read if you want some info

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on October 25, 2011, at 19:28:43

I spilled too much info about my addiction. I told them all of it and im really fed up because they didnt need to know all of my addiction history. I just told them everything.

UGH!!! I should of just told them about my methamphetamine use and not the adderall. It spilled all out of my mouth. Well they know it now and its documented. Thanks for my mouth.

ANYWAYS...im going in for some testing in about a week or too see what is going on and what job would be best for me. The guy said I I looked like i was having anxiety during the session and don't think its good option to get into a high anxiety setting that promotes anxiety, like very fast paced situations that require interperal skills and up frount conversations with customers. I mean I could do it, but they said its against their job to do anything that would promote your disablity to get worse. My diagnoses I told them where
major depressive disorder

adhd

low processing speed- I told him and he said there nothing wrong wtih having a slow processing speed. Still it means you learn slow.

an anxiety disorder

I did mention to them about one diagnosis that was made a couple years ago by a doctor: which is asperger's syndrome. Its a low form of autism. I've heard many people who have this can function fine without any assistance. They just have trouble with social aspects. It's complicated, look it up..you will find various things about it. I still don't know if I have this syndrome, it was just diagnosed by a doctor that I saw and never saw again after that.

So the guy was really considerate and told me all things I needed to hear. It will be seen that I will see another doctor by them, but all my documented substance abuse will be sent to them so UGH!! ME AND myyyy BIG MOUTH!!

there requesting all my documented diagnosis i've ever had. All the doctors i've had they wanted to have their numbers and their documented of information on my illnesses. So this place doesnt play games they want everything their is to know about you. I could of just said I don't know their numbers but I just am passive, i usally do what people ask.

My mother did come...but I didnt let her in session with him. She just came for reasons to help with infomation about insurance and all doctors that i've had in the past.

What do you think??? you think I did ok??

wrt your medical history it sounds like you did great. There's no point not revealing your past addiction issues. It would have come up eventually and it's better you were upfront with them and told them yourself, rather than them discovering it later. It's a big first step and now hopefully you can start on the right treatment. Like I told you I think one path you and your doctor should look at is discontinuing the heavy doses of Prozac and Zyprexa you're on, and start working from a clean slate.

I am SO proud of you, Matt! I hope you are too.

Don't regret your 'big mouth.' They would have found out anyway. The only way you can qualify for services is if you have a disability. The doctor who has been treating your disability has your problems with addiction in her file. They will want a treatment summary from her. Since you didn't try to hide it from them, I think your counselor will work harder for you. If he found out you hid important things from him, or had lied to him, then he may not be as motivated to work for you on your behalf.

The counselor is right about trying to find a job for you that does not require you to be good at things that aren't strengths. They will help you figure out how to capitalize on your strengths, and minimize the impact of your difficulties.

I think you did Fabulous. I'm really excited for you Matt!

These people probably deal with people who've had much more hardcore addiction issues than you. Nothing they haven't seen before. Besides, the only reason at this point to hide stimulant abuse would be trying to get a stimulant Rx. I personally think you can do fine without speed. I also think you'll feel much, much better if you either reduce your medication doses or completely remove a couple meds from your lineup, especially the zyprexa.

Work with the docs, who knows.. you might find you dont need the stims and benzos anyhow.
If you do need them and the docs refuse to prescribe.. well it helps to have an outside therapist to bounce this stuff off of.
There is so much fear of liability out there, and these new docs are all brainwashed about the evils of amphetamine and benzos. Handled responsibly they are still very good options.
Also, having a difficult time with social stuff can come from a lot of things, such as childhood PTSD. Not necessarily aspergers.
