Phillipa - The Ashton manual for benzo withdrawl

http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

You mentioned wanting to get off of benzos - this is a painless way of quitting if you have plenty of time.

Note that a lot of people can quit more quickly than this protocol, but doing it the slow way virtualy guarantees there will be no discomfort.

Hope this helps.

What do you plan on using to control your anxiety if you do go off of benzos? I'd look at Buspar and or Remeron (and I'd also consider wether you realy need to quit your benzos, if you've sucsessfuly taken them for so long, do you realy need to quit)

Hope this is of some help anyway

Jon

Jono sweet of you to post this for me. I was on buspar years ago remeron yes low dose when had insomnia and didn't help. I kind of know I will need low dose of benzos forever. But I wonder if ativan would be wiser as on the luvox and what an equivalant dose of .25 xanax and 7.5mg of valium would be with ativan. Used to take ativan with luvox. Have you ever babblemailed? We could also write back and forth that way? Phillipa

Yes, tried Buspar (and Atarax) and found both of them to be pretty useless.

I wouldnt let the stigma over benzos worry you - your dose is stable, they work, so why get uptight about them.

Sure, we might be dependant, but lots of people rely on drugs for a normal life- -noone makes a diabetic feel guilty for relying on insulin.

I'd love to give up my pills, but i will do it when I am better, and not before

Zoloft wont reduce benzo withdrawl symptoms, but it will help with your underlying anxiety, which is what led you to start benzos in the first place.

If you taper your Klonopin using the Ashton protocil, there shouldnt be any withdrawl symptoms, the withdrawl is so slow and seamless

For me anxiety has always been my problem. No ad ever took away anxiety for me.But we are all different. Anxiety runs in my family and all have and are on benzos except my grown kids. Phillipa

Thats what concerns me, is I've never been on zoloft w/o klonopin. What if zoloft doesnt work?Well, I guess I could always restart klonopin, then i'd be on 2 meds again.I am beginning to think I should stay on klonopin, try to get to .25mg,and stop the zoloft. It took me several months to taper zoloft last time, not too hard, but I felt pretty yucky.I just have to decide what is best, I have some guilt about being on a controlled substance.I worry about tolerance, and dependence. But the ads can do that too, cant they? I sometimes wish I'd never taken an ad or a benzo

Join the crowd. If you have no problem tappering the zoloft I'd personally do that and stick with that tiny klonopin dose. I find ad's more addictive for me than benzos. No guilt about taking them. Controlled? If you think about it in a way all meds are controlled as can't write your own scripts. Phillipa

Philipa - same here, none of the antidepressants helped my generalised anxiety, although they did help my panic attacks, benzos and risperidone have both helped with my anxiety. Buspar and Atarax didnt help.
