What if you want to go slower than pdoc wants?

Posted by Laney on October 24, 2011, at 12:45:35

My doc wrote the prescription for Savella wanting me on 200mg. by the end of a week?

When I do respond to a med, it usually doesn't take the full amount or whatever you call it.

How do I tell him I'd like to go slower with it? He knows how I respond to meds.

Thanks!

Laney

Im like you, and my pdoc knows it too, I am called her "crumb patient". So whenever theres a suggestion of new meds, I always say "the lowest dose first" and she knows I will still cut that in half or more! since she knows how I am, she always lets me decide how fast to go up or down. You have to say "Im comfortable going slow with this,Im too anxious to do anything fast when starting a med".

Laney first congrats on getting the script for savella. If you are more comfortable with the doc knowing call and say you would like to go slower. I'm the same and doc knows it also. Just take less or let him know. Phillipa

If you tell your doc youd like to titrate slower and he lectures you about hyper-response being 'all in your head' it is time to find another doc, IMO.

You should be allowed to titrate up as gradually as you want. If it is so severe that this is an issue, you should be hospitalized. Otherwise, there is no reason to rush it. If your doctor is not amenable to this, find a new one.

Best of luck.
