AndroGel forces me to shower every day LOL

Posted by zonked on September 1, 2011, at 14:03:09

I had gone from not showering at all under any circumstances (severe depression) to showering only when I was going out for an appointment or family/friend get together (current, sub-remission level of depression).

I noticed that if I shower every day, I wash off the residue and it makes the gel more effective. This is a habit I need to get into doing again anyway.

It's amazing what you let go during depression and the POWER of habits... I hope this will not seem like a chore anymore, at some point. Right now it's just a minor annoyance, but a requirement for an essential medication to work properly.

When you didn't shower was it because you didn't have the energy or what happened?

I find myself wanting to shower but I'm so exhausted. I have such a hard time believing all this exhaustion is anxiety and depression. I can hardly move.

I'm glad your Androgel has some positive "side effects"!

Two years ago, before I started parnate, I got into this vegetative state for months. I didn't shower, wash my hair, eat, exercise. I barely even drank water. It was horrible. My daughter came home and forced me to shower and wash my hair.

I've been there, or close to it. I just thought, why should I bother? Now it's time to get back go the habit. It's not automatic, but I am hoping it will be.

Androgel did nothing for me. Did not raise my testosterone at all. Tried Testim as well...nada. I guess I will have to have this low t till I die. :)

Hmm. Well, I remember when I first went to see a doctor for depression they did a series of labs, testosterone included (I was 18 or 19) and I tested "low normal" ... every time I've asked that it be tested since, same answer.

I finally got a doctor to try augmentation, and because of an insurance issue I have had to skimp until next month, and the difference is night and day.

Keep in mind I'm in my late 20s and ostensibly have had a form of this since birth. Even when I was really skinny, I never developed a typical masculine figure (was going to the gym too, this was years ago) so I wonder if my response is different because of those factors.

Have you tried depot testosterone injections or the patch? The skin absorption is poor, probably more for some people than others.

The only side effect I've had is some chest hair growth.

Can't wait to be back on it full time.
