Post-SSRI symptoms

Posted by freefree1133 on May 17, 2011, at 12:15:45

Add me to the list-- following discontinuation of Prozac, anhedonia and depersonalization. God bless these drugs. What kills me is I was extremely hesitant to try them for this exact reason, but was reassured by all those around me that no such thing was possible.

Anyways, I'm really just interested in adding my name to the list, and would welcome anyone who has struggled with this to offer their insights. Right now I'm struggling with whether or not I should just ride this out and hope it improves, as seems to be the general plan of action on paxilprogress, doing some more ayahuasca, or playing with chemicals again. Would love any input-- is close to a normal life out there? Will I be able to appreciate the joys of being alive ever again?

hey. Welcome to psycho-babble. I'm sorry about what you've experienced/are experiencing. Do you think the drugs they use to combat the SSRI "blahs" might be helfpul for this post-ssri problem? What do the people at paxilprogress have to say? Does it ever simply "get better" as your brain adjusts to being off the meds?

Next door neighbor after years of lexapro when off and still take xanax but says she feels better than she ever has. So yes in real life it's possible. Also Daughter's husband was on Lexapro for a year now off and fine. And youngest took prozac off and doing fine. Just was used for short term treatment. Phillipa

From my point of view it's probably related to what you were on and how long.

I was on paxilprogress for a couple of years and I'm one that isn't willing to go through what they term as protracted withdrawl and not know if/when I will ever feel ok. Life is too short.

They at paxilprogress are very anti-med if I remember right. That's fine and it works well for a lot but it wasn't the right path for me.

Good luck-

Laney

I did take paxil l0mg for two years but switched to another even though working fine as at the time they were trialing SSRI's and had an idiotic pdoc. Love Phillipa

Do you think there is any sense in trying to get this issue investigated? Is there any way a mechanism of action could be identified for those dealing with this problem? Have people improved?

Paxilprogress is your place to be on this one (in my opinion). They talk about these things all the time. If I remember yes, things improve for a lot of people. It can take some time. For some, unfortunately, years.

That's where I got stuck at paxilprogress. I listened to those stories and thought, no way am I going to allow myself to feel like crap for years.

It's an individual choice.

God bless,

Laney
