Xyrem for Depression with Sleep Issues

Posted by Petrucci914 on May 9, 2011, at 9:38:49

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone has tried Xyrem for their Depression, especially Depression with fatigue, and somnolence during the day? Were you able to get it covered under insurance?

This is second hand but I believe it is covered by insurance but company might be picky about dx. I have heard some very encouraging results regarding fatigue. Not sure about depression, but the two can be linked. I'm interested in how this goes for you. Fingers crossed both for getting coverage and for feeling better.

even the shitty pdocs i've had have thought of official Dx as insurance bs. Getting the rx for a powerful drug is the hard part, i would guess.

but d/r, I thought xyrem was only approved for narcolepsy. Most doctors seem willing to finagle a dx only so far.

I could be wrong. Happily so.

In higher doses and that's one of the medicine's abuses. So, in therapeutic use, no, but that's why people can get nervous about it.

It can really help some people.

that could be. I don't mean for any depression, but if fatigue and sleep is one of your major symptoms.

Some people have discussed xyrem for narcolepsy at a health forum called Dailystrength.org. I forget if it's one word or two. Maybe you can find something about use for depression and fatigue.

That's where I first read about it. The search index is pretty user friendly.

Good luck.

I just googled xyrem and you are all so correct for narcolepsy controlled though and daily strength about fourth down the page of sites. And also easy to navigate. Give it a whirl. Phillipa

I started Xyrem a few weeks ago and I don't think it has had any impact on my mood, and its duration of action is so extremely short. If anything, I hope my mood is uplifted as my sleeping patterns are corrected, but I can't imagine it being prescribed for depression/anxiety/whathaveyou straight up.

Shalevet,

How are you using it to correct sleep patterns?

I have heard of it used with cfs patients to help (somehow) reduce intractable fatigue. Have you noticed any effect on energy levels?

Is it difficult to use?

Thanks!
