ALL UK NARDIL USERS!!!

Posted by medamorphosis on October 11, 2010, at 6:00:09

Hi.
I may be in trouble. I'm currently taking Marplan (isocarboxazid), an MAOI, but stock has become near impossible to get.
I'm very tempted to switch back to Nardil (phenelzine) as Marplan's future is looking very grey.
However, I need to know that Nardil is still readily available in the UK before I make the switch, otherwise it will be pointless.
So, UK Nardil users- any troubles with getting your supply recently or currently?

Well, I just phoned Alliance Pharmaceuticals
http://www.camb-labs.com/contact.htm
Got put through to thier Customer Service Dept and was told they DO have isocarboxazid but in short supply. I was told to ask my local pharmacy to call them if I still have problems and they'll get a batch sent out.
I also asked if stock levels will go back to normal in the near future. I was told "YES".
Still, untill i have the bottles of pills in my hand its still stress, stress, stress...

Id still like the Nardil question from my previous post answered if possible.
Thanx.

There are no supply problems with Nardil in the UK.

Isocarboxazid is available direct from the manufacturer but they are not releasing stock to wholesalers. The pharmacy can call Alliance pharma if they require an emergency supply.

Good to know!

Thanks ed! Funny enough, I rang the hospital pharmacy today who recommended I contact Alliance Pharma so I did. Alliance's Customer service said exactly the same- get a high street pharmacy to call them and order direct
Was really starting to worry...but I'll still only completely relaxe when a) I have them in my hands and b) it becomes readily available again. I have a whole tub of 56pills left which means I have exactly 7 days left before im out. Hopefully it wont come to that!

Thanx for helping me out mate!

Ed, is there *anything* that you don't know? ;-)

So who's got your prescription? Have they ordered it from the manufacturer? If they are waiting for it to turn up from their wholesaler they may be waiting a long time.

Well. Someone made a blunder yesterday. Apparently when the pharmacy called Alliance Pharma they were told they had NO stock AT ALL! Thats not what they told me!
Anyways, I called Alliance again today. Explained the situation and the anguish i was in, and the operator gave me a co-workers number who was taking over the next day. I rang and gave my local Pharmacy this number, told them (again!) that they DO have supplies and that they should call them pronto! 10 mins later my pharmacy called back and said they're being faxed a form tomorrow which they need to fill in and fax back. Then my script will be sent out.
Ive cut down my dose to 60mg to give me an extra couple of days.
Hopefully Ill have them by early next week, if not before.
Makes me angry tho- why should 'I' the patient, the one whos supposedly 'ill' have to be the 'go-between'!?? Why cant these so-called professional bodies sort it out themselves? And why wern't my local pharmacy aware of the correct way to get an emergency supply? Totally SUCKS! Bloody system!

So basically, although things are now going in the right direction, I still dont have my pills.

I expect the pharmacy called Alliance Healthcare. Alliance Healthcare is one of the largest pharmaceutical wholesalers in the UK and all pharmacies use them for at least some products. Alliance Healthcare is in no way related to Alliance Pharmaceuticals, who make isocarboxazid. Alliance Healthcare will have told the pharmacy that they have no stock of isocarboxazid. Most pharmacies will never have had any dealings with Alliance pharma so they would have thought you meant Alliance Healthcare.

>And why weren't my local pharmacy aware of the correct way to get an emergency supply?

To be fair, it's not really surprising. Isocarboxazid is an extremely rarely used product. Most pharmacists have probably never even heard of it, let alone ordered an emergency supply of it. Still, I understand your frustration. I'm sure the tablets will be delivered within the next few days.

Ed, of course your advice was helpfull. It allways is! ;)
And yup! I now have a good stash of isocarboxazid, and because (so it appears) the pharmacy/ist was totally clueless and bodged things up, I also have a whole months worth to collect on tuesday too :D
Dont ask me why this is the case, im certainly not going to complain! I just hope Alliance sort their butts out and get the supply back to norm.

Thanks for all your input oh wise one! ;) You really did help me in this case- I would have given up a while ago had you not helped me along.

My experience of Alliance pharmaceuticals is that they have a lot of supply issues.......... certainly not just isocarboxazid.
