New doctor taken away from me, things are bad-help

Posted by zonked on November 17, 2009, at 21:43:01

Just when I thought things were going "okay"...and on their way to being a lot better:

Due to unremitting depressive symptoms @ 60mg of parnate as described below, I called my clinic and asked for an ASAP appointment with my "new doctor" (Mom has cancer, and I want to be CLOSER, if not IN remission by Thanksgiving)... I was told that since my first appointment, I have been assigned another doctor who is more familiar with "the medication you take". This could be good or bad, but it isn't helping my anxiety any!

It turns out 60mg of Parnate is not enough. I'm not suicidal and don't want to enter the hospital, but I *am* pretty anhedonic, teary-eyed, irritable, inattentive, alternatively hypo- and hypersomatic, etc etc. I know from my own experimentation that I need 80-90mg a day (the proper dose of Parnate works within 2-3 days) but I need the doctor to sign off on this since Medicaid counts the pills at refill time and I can't increase it on my own even if I wanted to. That is how desperate I am to get better....

Thanks to Ace, I'll produce the journal article which references the study showing high-dose Parnate therapy for refractory patients.

Cross your fingers for me, will you? If this doctor won't increase my dose I'll have to fire him and start all over *again*.

I'll force myself to find the energy to post back what happened - you all have helped me immensely... but I'm sure some of you know how difficult it is even to check email during depressive states... (I'm not where I don't open the browser, but I don't find anything very interesting, on the net or otherwise...)

Zonked timing it seems is always bad. Your poor Mom and poor you. I think that a doc more familiar with your med will help more than one who isn't. I'm here and so are the others please keep posting. Love Phillipa

In my experience, and in speaking with different doctors who are comfortable with using Parnate, the normal therapeutic range really should be 40-80mg. High-dosage Parnate therapy really involves using dosages of 120mg and above.

Could you provide a Web link for this article?

Thanks.

I hope you can persuade your doctor to go higher. It can make the difference between obtaining a partial response and attaining remission.
