Paranoid about waking up the way I was

Posted by Maxime on November 2, 2009, at 18:37:20

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but I am seriously paranoid that I am going to wake up and the positive effects of the Parnate will be gone. Maybe that's why I have trouble falling asleep. I don't know.

Does anyone else have this fear that once they start to feel good that they will go backwards again?

I've got a case of that now after starting KEppra, which has totally soothed my brain.

I'm glad the Keppra is working for you. What are you using it for ... mood stabilisation?

Well, I'm being investigated for seizures and the Keppra is helping with a lot of my seizure-like symptoms. It does stabilize my mood too.

I think it's only natural. Depression is a horrible disease. But I also dislike the feeling of being dependent on a medicine, especially if it does not provide adequate relief or gives too many side effects. My neurotic mind never lets me rest.

Ummm, all the time. Sometimes I really hate waking up because of that very thing. Am trying to work on it with MBCT--but it's so ingrained. sigh.

Sorry Maxie.

What does MBCT stand for?

I still fear waking up. And sometimes I do feel worse if I take those sleeping pills. But I still feel much better than I did in October or September. So that's a good thing!

You know I'm glad to hear about your improvement.

MBCT stands for mindfulness based cognitive therapy. Jon Kabat Zinn started it. Basically meditation w/ a few variations (I find focusing on the breath most helpful), distress tolerance, even gentle movement. You probably already know about this--just didn't recognize the acronym. Zinn developed it for the most hopeless cases of chronic pain, illness, anxiety, and depression. It supposed to pay off with practice. Wish me luck! It's awfully hard to sit w/ myself sometimes :-)
