Pneumonia or Zyprexa?

Posted by Phil on August 23, 2009, at 14:25:27

Just got out of the hospital(again)about 2 weeks ago.

Took a cab there because of high fever, 103.9, chills, all that stuff.

Checked in to a luxury suite(single)on the 7th floor.

Doc and 6 interns checked me out. Xrays pointed to pneumonia and they were dripping anti bios into me left and right. Tons of that crap.

All I wanted was my Tylenol on time. If not, chills then fever. It sucked big time.

After about 4 days 'pneumonia' wasn't responding.

The doc, his troops, and I were staring at each other and he said, I think we're barking up the wrong tree...When did you start that 15 mg of Zyprexa? Bout 8 days ago. He grinned at his asst mgrs..lol

Somewhere in there he did a CT scan also.

He took me off all antibiotics and Zyprexa. I had taken Symbyax before(much lower dose)so plot thickens.

I just signed a release so my pdoc could get dx from hospital.

What will it say...y'all?

Hurry...lol

Hi Phil,

Well, you know what I think--though of course I might be wrong. Do you think you had pneumonia? Is that what the hospital said? I'd like to know what you suspect, and maybe more of your symptoms.

How have you been feeling? Better, I hope, in all ways.

I've had pneu. before and the x-ray looked the same.

I seem to remember not feeling all that bad till I tried walking up stairs. This time though not so much.

Not sure this time but if I don't stop smoking it's time to pick out an area to throw my ashes. No burial, what if claustrophobia lives on. Now that's hell!

No other symptoms.

I've started Abilify and cry while placing orders at Mexican food restaurants. Hardly an exaggeration.

Cr*p! I'm sorry Phil--that sounds pretty miserable. What dose of abilify are you at? And are you on anything else?

So you think you had pneumonia? I thought your symptoms you wrote about in an earlier thread matched the description for nms. I re-read your post and I realize you're awaiting the hospital Dx?

I wish I had a good joke to tell you--but I'm lousy at humor--I only appreciate it.

Keep us posted,

Don't know what I had but my pdoc did mention nms.

This year has scared the hell out of me.

I could always roll with the illness for the most part.

No mas. I just wonder what the next drug will bring or what the next weird illness will be.

Other meds: Lithium 900mg
Lamictal400mg
Clonazepam1.5mg

I think that's it.

Phil,

Whatever was up for you this last year I think is over. I mean really. Enough, right? There's nothing like being righteously ill to give one the jitters for some time. And of course, for most people, seems whatever illness we have doesn't age well. Get stable and stay stable--whatever it takes. That's what I'm trying to do (though my dx has been changed to MDD TRD recurrent.)

Do you like short stories? There's a great little book called Jesus' Son by Dennis Johnson. Funny as heck--and very real. (Oh, not religious by any means, fyi.)

Hang in there,

fb

btw, what do others say about abilify start-up? It made me weepy, too, but, I didn't give it a fair trial--.

Good advice.
Once stable, other things are possible.

I'll work on the stability bit. It's just been a tough year.

I think I'll be OK.

Right now it feels like the big quake has passed and there are unpredictable and freaky aftershocks.

This year redefined MI for me, but it's made me begin to realize that I must do everything to get better. Not just search for the 'miracle med.'

Phil seriously do you have a plan to get better if so what's the first step? I'd also like to learn from you your personal plan for wellness. So no pneumonia? NMS? Love Phillipa

Phil why not call and ask? And six days can be pneumonia if strong antibiotics used. So you feel it's NMS? Phillipa
