Extended Release Capsules IF Split What Happens?

Posted by Phillipa on June 25, 2009, at 17:34:46

Question for the experts if someone has an extended capsule not with beads what happens if they crush them and take the pill all at once in the crushed state? Do they absorb more than lets say l0mg if it's a 10mg pill? Posting for a nonblocked poster. Thanks Phillipa ps his computer will not access the site hence said would post for him.

Breaching the covering to an extended release makes it immediate release. One doesn't get more dose than the dosage of the pill. One just gets the dose in a faster time frame than if the dose is released over time. Sometimes not a big problem and sometimes can be quite problematic.

Me neither so my words might not mean anything either.

extended release capsules are filled with bits of med variantly coated so that the med kicks in when the coating dissolves in stages (usually 2 or 3 stages--not a fine science)

tablets are another story

but if you are talking about capsules the only change would be if you did not administer within a capsule and the result of that would simply be a quicker initial reaction

Probably a potential danger of turning it into an IR instant plasma amount of the drug.

What would be the point ?

If [blank] XR/XL/etc were to cover something taken 2 or 3 or 4 times a day, I mean it would be like taking it all at once.

And that's unpredictable, with some medications that could cause a nasty reaction, who knows, anxiety spells, seriously increased chances of side effects already felt, which could be any sort of possible dangerous thing.

Also it could cause withdrawals if done continuously, since Medication Z has a short half life, so there would be a decreasing amount left at the end of the day.

So, don't.

Being overly impressed with oneself is not the most attractive trait to be found.
I might have had that reenforced by what I've seen and experienced here. ; )

My first thought was a little funny and now I feel uncomfortable. How does a poster go about finding who another poster is?
How could they know ? I feel upset.

If your going to conclude you know who I am by speculation can I add to the suspects ?
Maybe Halle Berry or Iman. Either of those.
