chills on parnate

Posted by dalton on May 7, 2009, at 21:02:28

First, thanks to all posters on this board. I have learned so much by following your discussions, particularly regarding parnate. This is the first time I have not found my questions already answered by previous posts.

I love parnate. It is the first drug that has chipped away at my no- reason-to-get-up-atypical depression. Have been going up slowly. Side effects seem routine: sleepiness, low bp, etc. Except for this, I have periods where I get so cold that all I can do is huddle under a pile of blankets and I still shiver. Could this be due to parnate? Also, about two hours after taking a dose my ears plug for about 1/2 hour. Currently at 45 mg (divided). Am also on cytomel, lamictal, and ativan (for sleep).
Thanks,
Dalton

Yes, I had the same thing, although it was attributed to a surgery I had a short time before I started. I ended going off it, so I can't offer anything in terms of if and when that side effect will leave you..good luck..someone will chime in with more..lots of posters here with experience with MAOI's.

How strange you should mention these things. When I tried parnate, I became cold as ice. Even in warm surroundings, my fingers were cold as ice cubes. I had an electric blanket on high at night time when it was 70 degress out, and still I was cold. The ear thing too. I didn't really feel clogged up, but my hearing was a lot worse. It is already not so good, but on parnate became much worse, almost as if I had cotton stuffed in my ears.

I've had the same experiences on Parnate and Cytomel. In fact, I was looking up chills as side effects just the other day.

I'm at 60mg, and I have chills all the time, even on warm days. Same problem with the hearing, too.

I've been colder on parnate too (though it wasn't really noticable - i had the same effect from buproion i was on prior, so its just status quo at this point).

I love it though - i feel like i can survive in room temperatures others find comfortable. IN hte past, i'd be so hot, and wish it were 50 degrees (f) all teh time.

The ear thing is odd, the NA effect would seem to cause broncodialiation. wonder why its doing that
