Spoke to Servier in Sweden again the other day. They hoped that it would reach the swedish market in or before the summer of this year. The man I spoke with seemed somewhat dissapointed that they could not deliver it sooner due to, according to him, burocracy within the company.

Extreme,

That's not correct, according to my pharmacist. He said the release date will be the same througout the EU. That will give everyone the chance of being treated equally.

Sweden is EU too, isn't it?

There have been people on this board who have tried it. I think they were part of a study. You can do a search and find what they had to say about it. The couple of posts that I read were quite positive.

I've been on agomelatine for 4 months now. My main problems are GAD with some depression.
I'm having quite a good experience with it. The main thing is the complete lack of SSRI like side effects. No weight gain, emotional numbing or sexual issues.

As for its antidepressant effects its maybe not quite as robust as an SSRI responce the starting dose of 25mg, so I upped the dose to 50mg and its much better. Anxiety is much less too. Overall I'm happy to be on ago and not SSRIs anymore.

I've emailed servier UK on the EU release date they say later in the year (2009). I also found a quote from the CEO of servier UK saying Autumn 2009. So september I'm hoping.

Hi Bob,

I was part of a clinical trial with agomelatine last year for GAD and was on agomelatine for 4 months. At the beginning I was extremely skeptical, which I think could be attributed to being a neuroscience PhD student. I've done preclinical research in the area of antidepressants for years and my knowledge of the field has led me to be very questioning towards such medications. But the effects of agomelatine really forced me to change my point of view. Before this trial I had never taken anything for my GAD and I found that I started to feel different after about 2 weeks. The experience was absolutely life changing and I've never been able to replicate it with other medications since.

The thing that made the biggest impression was the quality of my sleep. My sleep was incredible. I can't even fully describe it. I hadn't even realized that my sleep was so bad until it changed. I would wake up feeling absolutely refreshed and energized. I would be very alert and awake all day and right up until bedtime. My sleep was very regular and very efficient. I found I needed much less sleep and felt better than ever.

My GAD symptoms also pretty much disappeared with absolutely NO side effects. And I appreciate this so much more in hindsight because I seem to be VERY sensitive to side effects of SSRI's and I've been struggling in vain since I stopped agomelatine.

When I came off the drug I wasn't aware of it (after 4 months of medications we started a period of double-blind placebo), but it was obvious within the first week. I didn't experience any actual withdrawal symptoms, I just went back to the way I had been before. My sleep was terrible and all my GAD symptoms came back over the course of a few weeks.

Anyway, I'm desperate for agomelatine to be approved in Canada and I've gone from a skeptic to a full supporter due to my first-hand experience of it's positive effects.

I agree with everything the previous poster said except that for me I have to keep the dose low so I don't get (what I take to be) the adrenergic charge/late afternoon anxiety.

It is quite something to wake refreshed.

Niltiac,

Go on Google Groups and search for "Agomelatine Psychonauts". You'll be quite interested in that group. Just do.

Nice story! It must be frustrating to try something and then be deprived of it.
I'm definitely going to try ago when it's available in my area.

I'm actually very lucky. I know Ago has just been approved in Europe and I'm moving to Europe in September to study there. So I should be able to get a prescription. It's going to make things so much easier, especially in the sleep department. I went from happily sleeping 5 hours and often less on Ago to now sleeping sometimes up to 12 hours! I can't even describe how difficult this is when one is trying to complete grad school! The last year has been a constant dilemma between negative side effects and GAD symptoms. But I'm sure many can sympathize.

Marty, thanks for that tip. I'm always looking for new information regarding Agomelatine.

All I can say is to visit our group and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Agomelatine does not jack my mood up as such, but it does make me feel more resilient, and therefore is useful for social anxiety, but not at all like disinhibiting agents.

When will Agomelatine be released in the U.S.? I heard its Phase III trials, and no further trial applicants are being accepted. Can you buy this online overseas like similar unavailable medicines?

I was kind of curious on how this compares with Lexapro on GAD? I thought Lexapro was effective for GAD, but it wasn't really activating in making me really have the motivation to change my life; plus there was a dopey effect. Possibly Agomelatine is better in that regard?

Its not quite as powerful an effect as lexapro (for me anyway), and positive mood is not changed so significantly. But it does make a difference and the lasck of side effcts is a bonus.

I found intersting to share my experience with this new medication Agomelatine, well i was expecting it for long time now after march of 2010 we have it available in brasil, well i have tried lots of diferents medicines, first i was for 6 years having paroxetine 20mg once a day, well the first year i got so sleepy and mindless, start waking up late after 11 a.m. lost my job and had to face new way to deal with my own condition, till i get in deep depression, so, doctors try new medicines, until i gave up last year, when i stopped taking antedepressants, now i just started a 7 days ago the agomelatine 25mg, I dint stop my sleeping pills in fist day of agomelatine, but after 4 days im not taking sleeping pills along with agomelatine, it seams that my sleep conditions have improved, i wake up better and i feel better with just 7 days, apart from my sleepy, I can say im more calm then a week ago, specialy in traffic when i used to be so anxious. now and then i hope i get even better but id like to share whats happening in my life with agomelatine.

What are people's experiences from ago? anyone been on this med for a while? is it good for anhedonia? I see it mainly affects melatonin, which is good for sleep but it also indirectly raises norepinephrine and dopamine but not serotonin, hopefully meaning ago would be good for anhedonia and have a positive afect on sexual functioning, also it is made by servier, possibly to make up for the rejection of aminetpine? thanks.

I've been taking Ago for 9 months now at 12.5mg per night for GAD. The 25mg dose gives me pain in my legs. I'm not sure what this med is doing if anything at all. Nothing will ever touch the benefits that Aminetpine(Survector) produces.

I've been taking Valdoxan (agomelatine) for more than three months and it has stopped my bipolar ultra rapid cycling.

I have never tried amineptine, but I hear it was the only good ad, especially for people with anhedonia/dopamine deficient depression. It was also made by servier like agomelatine is, shame its been banned, its still available on the net but ridiculously expensive. So you are'nt getting much benefit from the valdoxan, what about adding another agent? something dopaminergic?

I am going to drop the Ago and replace it with Mebicar (Adaptol).

Sounds good for anxiety, it can't be as bad as western medicine.
