My most BIZARRE SIDE effect. What is/was YOURS?

Posted by myco on March 6, 2009, at 20:01:19

What bizarre or just plain messed up sides have you come across during your time on meds?

Here is mine, this is just weird:

I wonder if anyone can help me understand this bizarre side effect. I've been on handfull of AD's but Nardil was the only one to do this to me...intense and frequent in the beginning but now occasional and mild enough to shrug off/laugh at:

My first experience of this scared the sh*t out me...I was asleep and I felt this intense rush or zap up my spine right to my head...every muscle in my body tightened up extremely enough to jolt me, my body literally left the bed, then relaxed as fast as it happened...then get this...this is the f*ck*d up part...my head and face, and I had no control over this, would shake violently for a second...like one of those big dogs that has the sloppy drool on dripping from its lips and it shakes it off (movie K-9 with Tom Hanks remember?)...so ya here I am asleep and I go from dead asleep to this...woke up and said outloud, and you could here me almost yell this if you were in the room, "what the hell was that". I literally had no control over it. It passed with no issue but this still happens to this day but just not as dramatic as it was the first few weeks of Nardil. Its almost funny now. It only ever happens at night and only when I am just in that state of not quite awake and not asleep.

Not quite sure what this is, anyone care to shoot?

well this is pretty personal but strange enough to merit a mention

when i was on effexor i got into a relationship and every time i was about to climax
for a split second
it was like i was a marionette and someone had clipped my strings
from building tension to a split second of every muscle letting go

I have had a few. Wellbutrin made me love, love, love everything I saw or read. I thought insurance commercials were brilliant. I still have friends who won't trust my movie recommendations anymore ;)

Zoloft made my hands shake uncontrollably.

Lexapro made me feel achy, feverish, like I had the flu.

Remeron and Xanax have both given me lucid dreams.

Ambien made me forget everything I did after I took it..including any sexual activity (you can imagine the situations THIS led to...my boyfriend at the time kept wanting to repeat things I had no idea I'd done. Apparently it really ramped up some particular skills;))

And this is embarrassing..but when I take Xanax at night, sometimes I pee my pants a little bit. I don't know why this is. All I can figure is that it reduces my anxiety so much that I don't care whether I do that or not. Usually I'm dreaming and think, oh, I have to pee a a bit, and then think, okay, whatever, go ahead. Am I 33 and ready for Depends? Yikes...

Head feeling like it would explode from various ad's.

Myco could this side effect of your's be some type of lucid dreaming as you say waking up? Other than that no idea. Love Phillipa great topic

Visual trails under low light conditions from Serzone.

Once I knew they were harmless, I kind of got a kick out of it.

That's a BAD thing? I would love to feel like that, at least I think so :)

Bensos in the past (no idea why that cool effect arnt around today - I miss it):

Enhanced vision on the edge to something "facet-like" - specielly when looking at crowds or traffic or whenever several objects moved at the same time (I must say I never DROVE a car under the influence - never had a drivers license, less could drive). The stronger benso - the stronger visual enhancment. This strange side effect was almost THE first effect I felt after taking benso, appeared very instlantly some 17-20 minutes after taking benso and peaking in about 2 hours then to slowly fade away in the "benso-mist".

Effexor XR:

Lost all identifiable feelings on one dose (75 mg) - facial expressions and voice-pattern vanished on others - could have robbed a bank in that state but lucky I was still owning some logic. The day after I panicked due to a time of some hour with something that felt like a beginning of parkinsons... there were cramps flowing around in my body, seemed to come from the stomach-IBS (had it for some years) and then spread to my arms and legs. One week on that thing and I would be dead for sure.

Risperdal:

Music was simply pointless to listen to... everything sounded "flat" even my favourite music.

Lergigan on 50 mg (last time I took it - its a simple Histamine-1 blocker for sleeping/allergies etc):

A spider was constantly in my field of vision when looking at walls (seemed to sit on the walls). It was not trying to attack me or something, rather it seemed to search for its web with it legs, minding his own buisness all the time. One time when observing this litttle creature a GIANT "microbe-like" thing "swam" past my field of vision... never to be seen again. Today I know what these things were... they are a less common side effect from the anti-histamines which have connections to the cholinergic nerve system. Often I got strange "shadows" appearing in my field of vision when looking at something distant when taking other antihistamines. But this with the spider and the microbe-thing was so far out. I wondered when it had passed (the spider was there for some 8 hours)... where were those creatures?! In my mind? In some other dimension? Well.. at least they didnt chase me... they didnt even notice me. Such animals dont and thats the strange part... hallucinations as in dreams dreams often tend to attack you or bother you in some way.. these guys minded their own buisness, they were there behaving as they would in real life. (btw.. I dont suffer from hallucinations otherwise)

Well.. there is the most bizarre. Simple to say... I have never dared to try another SSRI/SNRI/whatever since the effexor incident... the only Ad im gonna try in the future is valdoxan. Yea, also antihistamines are not on my wish-list... the spider and the microbe didnt attack me or bother me but it was kinda WEIRD to see them.

Oh btw! The thread-creator (why cant i see the name from here)... that SEEMS like an episode of sleep paralysis, something that I have every now and then in my life.. sometimes bensos make them more severe or stronger.

the worst SE ever i'm still not sure what it was from...my best guess is from Trileptal.
i was in the hospital for depression and been on symbyax, a new doc came in (thank goodness) and decided (per request from me) to switch my meds.
not taper he just immediately switched.
from symbyax to wellbutrin and trileptal and seroquel.

but next morning i started the wellbutrin and trileptal (around 8:00 i think, around 9 went out for a smoke, then back in for group) and while i was at the table i started to go numb, everything started to fade a bit and i realized i couldn't move. i started to groan a bit and one person realized that i REally wasn't ok and tried to tell the nurse (the nurse said i'd be fine), the person next to me touched my hand and my arm postured, that when the nurse "GOT IT" and rushed two other nurses in as at this point i couldn't walk or talk, i felt like there was fire on my neck and remember trying to tell them and couldn't understand why i couldn't talk.

they got me to the room and got doc. it ended up lasting most of the day i think around 2-3 i was finally getting speech back.
i remember one of the nurses asking the pdoc why my eyes were doing that weird thing??? still not sure what that was about.

anyway, i stayed on the drug cuz i figured it couldn't get any worse. it worked for a while then i got off it. the wellbutrin however was great.
after being in the hospital for two weeks, three days on wellbutrin and i was out.
