How have you fared blood glucose and weight wise after using Zyprexa long-term? Have you been able to manage?

Hi Shasling, was into a million things before, sorry. I can tell you a little about your new meds but not the whole package and sometimes as I've learned its tweaking one thing that makes the difference.

First, I think we're deficient in the same thing, ssri's make me a paranoid mess. Never again. That was from Prozac and 3 days of Lexapro.I couldn't look people in the eye. Parnate took months to work but I think it was dose, not duration. I felt improvement at 70mg, (only once before that when I added 5mg of ritalin) and my new PDoc added 40mg Ritalin. I'm now at 80mg Parnate, 60mg Ritalin, and am currently tapering off Klonpin. I feel almost as good as new. I apperantly have some issues that need to be worked out in therapy....weekly.

My PDoc sees me every 2 weeks for 1/2 hour and keeps really close watch of my blood pressure which is finally normal, 120/80.

I tried Wellbutrin a long time ago for add, small dose ritalin worked better for me.

I liked Wellbutrin, the first week or two you get a huge rush of energy, so get your projects lined up! I had to stop cause it made me irratable in the eves when I was raising young boys. My Dad takes it with Cymbalta and it works for him.

Klonopin I took for nerve pain, I always liked it for that, good for sleep I geuss. I never got that "good" feeling people get from it. Wasn't bad either. Zyprexa I know nothing.

So I geuss thats it. I mailed you a while back. Was wondering about Parnate or something. Mail me if you feel like talking. Again, glad your back.

Thanks for taking the time to answer,i am curious where wellbutrin falls, ill find out when i have time to browse, but i feel better knowing that im no the only person who lieterly cant tolerate ssris,i can take them what so ever.

Im really nervous about leaving parnate, but the rollercoaster of augmentation, the sexual side effect of not being able to finish, and god the insomnia are simply not matching the beinifit any longer,i have to switch, wish me luck, thanks!

Hi again,

Check your mail. It looks like Wellbutrin is in a separate class and chemically looks like a stimulent I can't pronounce. Its mainly used for depression, I used it for ADD, and its also prescribed for smoking cessation. I remember liking it except for that evening irritability but you'll be taking some Klonopin so that will help with that.

bupropion (and its significant metabolites) block reuptake of NA & DA to some degree. However, it also affects the immune system strongly and reduction in inflammation might be even more important.

Sesamin is an OTC weight loss product might be worth looking into, can improve lipid numbers, only downside is fatigue or reduced libido, but bupropion should counteract that. might help mood, as well.

well its helpful for inflammation, particularly tnf-alpha. i don't really know enough about thyroid disease to know how those interact and it might depend on the particualr thyroid problem. i think generally it woudl improve autoimmune disorders.

Ph I looked a bit more, tnf-alpha seems high in some autoimmune thyroid diseases, they have inverse relationship (tnf-alpha inhibits TSH, TRH, and i think in some cases t3 use, and also the reverse).

bupropion could block immune system activity that is blocking thyroid function.

if you have hypothyroidism due to immune system dysfunction (like hashimoto's), bupropion might improve thyroid functioning. of course even if it didn't, it woudl be one of the better ADs for addressing the symptoms of hypothyroidism. do you know if your thyroid issues have an immune system component?

st. johns wort also could affect immune system favorably in such situation, by IL-6. theres some evidence it raises tsh. (interestingly, this was seen as bad:
For example, hyperforin, a constituent of St. John's wort, has been shown to be a potent functional ligand of the pregnane X receptor, an orphan nuclear receptor that binds to the rifampin-dexamethasone response elements in the promoter region of the cytochrome P450 3A4 gene.[2,3,5]

The enzyme-inducing properties of St. John's wort have been observed clinically when coadministered with various drugs, such as theophylline, cyclosporine, simvastatin, and digoxin.[6,7] Although the metabolic pathways of thyroxine are not as well characterized as these drugs, it certainly warrants serious consideration given the frequent finding of thyroid follicular hyperplasia due to enzyme induction in animal toxicology studies, the ability of common enzyme-inducing drugs to induce both phase I and phase II enzymes, and the association of enzyme-inducing drugs such as rifampin with elevated TSH levels in healthy volunteers as well as in patients receiving exogenous thyroid hormone supplements (which was the case in two of the four exposed cases
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/434468)

you can babblemail me if you want, i usually post stuff if its got any technical content so that it can be found by someone searching on the topic; i have found other people's old posts helpful before

d/r been diagnosed with hasimotos thyroiditis for 14 years came on about same time as menopause. Was stable on synthroid til about a year ago now it's fluctuating widely. Seeing endo and last TSH was 3.6 and one before that over ll and the tests were four weeks apart. So you feel wellbutrin is benefiticial. Better than the luvox been on forever? Thanks Love Phillipa

yeah i would definitely give it a try. i probably won't stop the luvox at first, its easier to quit later than quitting and then restarting, but you might just want the one. i'd be curious how your thyroid number were after a while on it
