USA Pharma, the embodiment of atavistic Calvinism

Posted by Valero on January 2, 2009, at 17:12:56

Am I missing something? are there in fact any really good a.d.'s from the great US of A. with proven longevity, low side effect profile, and no diet restrictions? which actually make you feel good to be alive?

The French brought you Amineptine, Tianeptine,Amisulpride.Modafinal
The Germans brought you Heroin( ok. it's banned but still popular), Tramadol.
The Swiss provided an MAOI, where you don't drop dead, after a decent meal.
The list goes on,
If anyone knows of an Ace a.d. from the states, please advise.

And aspirin. And chemicals that killed more than 6 million people by manufacturers who now provide beneficial materials.

If you take Ultram, you had better not take anything else. It interacts with so much its not funny.

They also brought the first true SSRI in the 80s which killed people and was quickly pulled.

Yes, I agree this is going to go into the "magic pill" direction and there is none, but that doesn't mean a lack of hope please, etc, which we went into before, unless we change semantics.

There are palliatives that make people's lives much more functional and happy than they would have last century but happiness also comes from hard work that we all do more than anyone else.

And for that, a very good 2009 for everyone. Don't make resolutions unless you really like that angle, they can be a mixed bag. But do if you like. Just be you. :)

If it makes you feel any better we don't have any here either. You can't even get amphetamine or Ritalin without a dx for ADHD. The doctors are cool enough about it and describe it as a crock of sh*t all up, but one doesn't like to impose on their scepticism.

Well, though it is not a good med for many of us, Lexapro probably qualifies. In metastudies it actually outperforms all other meds and with fewer side effects. Obviously that is not the pattern with a difficult patient population like pbabble. But in the average world, Lexapro qualifies as a winner, looking at objectively and statistically. Personally for me it sucked though.

The two unsung heroes on the planet in my opinion, and as you said, not from USA, are Milnacipran and Amisulpride.

I don't know the laws and procedures that dictate how the FDA does business. But they need to be scrapped and re-written from scratch. I mean, if a med has been used my millions of people in other countries, it has been around for at least two decades, it has a large body of scientific study, several placebo and competitor controlled studies, and a safety record at least as good or better than anything else of the FDA, well, it should just be outright approved in a matter of weeks, not months or years.
