Starting Nardil..... again!

Posted by streetsk8er794 on September 19, 2008, at 22:41:50

Whats up ya'll. Was on Nardil 2 years ago, but bought it online from a canadian pharmacy, and didnt know what I was doing. I just started taking 75 mg per day; without any upwards titration. I did find Nardil to be the best AD I've ever tried, but it eventually worked less and less (I think this was due to my lack up upwards titration).

So, I'm starting in a week. How should I do this dosage thing? My goal is to be at 60 mg. I'm thinking starting at 15 mg for one week, then adding 15 mg per week till I'm at 60 mg. Once at 60 mg, take 30 mg am, then 30 mg pm.

Does this sound like a good Nardil upwards titration strategy? Or is it too fast?

I think when I started My pdoc had me take 15 mg for a few days then upped it to 30mg for another week or so. I'm the one that usually makes him slow the advancement of a med increase. The times I ramped up quickly were never successful and usually failed to help me at all.

My approach is always slow, only increasing after a week or two, and if no side effects or improvement in mood moving forward.

I'm now at 45 mg, backed down from 60 mg.

I did have side effects for the first 6 months which were unpleasant, but were not enough to make me quit. I think has worked for me since with other meds that my pdoc has pushed I usually had much worse side effects which made me quit the med entirely. Perhaps some of the meds would have worked if he were only less aggressive in raising the dose.

After 20 years, he now lets me proceed at my own rate, which is usually snails pace. It suits me.

streetsk8er794,

Your upwards titration strategy sounds like a good one. Are you going to be taking Pfizer's U.S. version of Nardil this time? Just curious.

I hope you do well on Nardil once you get started with it.

Please be careful combining Dexedrine (dexamphetamine) and Nardil (phenelzine). These 2 medications, when taken together, can cause bad reactions. Below is a journal article describing a case involving this combination that resulted in death from bleeding in the brain due to high blood pressure.

Death after Combined Dexamphetamine and Phenelzine
Br Med J. 1965 July 17; 2(5454): 168169.
J. T. Alban Lloyd and D. R. H. Walker

In addition to this journal report, several posters here at Psycho Babble are concerned about you trying this combination. Perhaps consider the potential risks and benefits. Do you have a Pdoc you could talk to about this?

I've been on Dexedrine for about 60 months now, and I'm sure my bodies used to it. There have been numerous case studies (just search Dr. Bob), where Nardil and dexamphetamine (and ritalin for that matter), have been used quite successfully.

I don't want to turn this thread into a debate about whether or not a stim and nardil is a good idea. I don't even know if i'll be on the two together.

Nardil is the most important med to me, and thats what this thread is about. I will raise it 15 mg per week till I hit 60 mg, at which point I will maintain.

At this point, I will be taking 30 mg Nardil, and 1 mg klonopin at 10 am; and 30 mg nardil, and 1 mg klonopin at 10 pm.

The klonopin takes away my social "phrases" that I get stuck in my head (be confident, walk with your head up, listen, etc. etc.), and the Nardil takes away the depression associated with klonopin, and is very synergistic with the klonopin.

BTW....

Does Nardil increase the effects of Klonopin? Because I'm thinking that once the Nardil starts to work, I will be able to wean down to a lower dose of the klon.

This is the end of the thread.
