budeprion vs bupropion

Posted by kowaligirl on June 26, 2008, at 16:18:11

I have read most of the post for the above set of medications. I have gone so far as to contact Glaxo regarding some side effects I have had since beginning Wellbutrin XL 300. After having some worsening aggression issues, rage, unnecessary anger and lack of careing (apathy) I contacted Glaxo and asked if this was a rare side effect. I have since looked back on the exact names of the drugs I have been given for the past 7 months. The problems I have described began 2 months ago. According to the pharmacy records, I was given Budeprion XL for these 2 months. The months before I was on Bupropion HCL 300 mg. Knowing what I know now personally and after contacting Glaxo I am convinced that the Budeprion is at the center of my unexplained anger, rage and apathy. I am back on Bupropion and feeling better. They may think that generics are all the same but I am proof to myself that all generics are not equal.

Welcome to the world of Budeprion! did You read my post above?

I have gained a whole lot of weight from being on this crap that Teva NOT Glaxo makes.....Not to mention the underlying and sometime surface anger that comes from nowhere. And the crying at the drop of a feather.

I have allerted my pharmacy and my doctor that I have allergic reactions to budeprion.

I am on my second day of brand not generic Wellbutrin.....I am on 150 mg SR. when I was on the Budeprion I was supposed to be on it twice a day! No way Jose! I will see what this does twice a day after the first week....

It is always nice to see that I have not been imagining things but it is not nice that someone else is suffering at the hands of Insurance companies and pharmacies that assume without asking. Thanks for sharing....

Did they say it was the fillers and dyes? What did you learn? Love Phillipa and generics are different.

this could be key. thanks for posting this.

Phillipa,
I am in the process of them getting my medical and pharmacy records. I am allowing them to go this far to help others not deal with what we are having to deal with. The Glaxo brand is fine. I am having none of the side effects from it I did on the Teva brand. Generic is NOT generic. I haven't thought about asking my dr. to tell my pharmacy I am allergic to budeprion but i will so I will not have to deal with all that insurance stuff again. My insurance is fairly good on covering my meds but I just don't want to take a chance on the wrong meds being given to me. I hated the unexplained anger, and rage and the APATHY. I hated not feeling like I didn't care what my own mother was dealing with. On the budeprion, I just did not care about anyone. Now I am back to giving a hoot and I feel better. I will do what Glaxo needs to help maybe notify people the one is not the other in terms on generics. I will keep everyone posted as I know things.

Maybe we can pass the word on that anyone having these problems with budeprion can contact Glaxo directly their website. Let them know there are others having these same problems. There is safely in numbers, right? Go to Wellbutrin.com and contact them. Let's see what happens.

Okay..now I am confused......

I know that the Budeprion I just threw away is made by Teva.....Does Glaxo do the Budeprion too??
Or is Glaxo the folks who manufacture bupropion in the Generic form as well as in the name brand? I just got my bottle of real...unadulterated-LOL- Wellbutrin and it says GlaxoSmithKline.

I want to make sure that we all send our complaints and feedback to the right manufacturer.

kowlagirl - I did the same thing as you with respect to telling my doc's assistant that I am severly allergic to Budeprion. Come to find out he wrote the scrip for Wellbutrin...my pharmacy supplied it as Budeprion...I have informed them as well that I am allergic to it and that I am to get nothing but brand. Fortunately for me I have excellent insurance through my hubby so I can do that without a huge financial penalty. Once he retires I will try to go to Bupropion if that is necessary.Good luck to you and all of us who have suffered at the hands of Teva!!!

I have only been on brand for 2-1/2 days..I am going to go back to twice a day on Saturday and see what happens. When my doc bumped me to 300 a day and it was budeprion I thought I was gonna crawl outta my skin.

You also hit a nerve when you said that you had been in a place where you weren't truly caring about what your family - mom specifically was going through - I have been there too only I didn't associate it with this stupid drug.
It is more than stupid it is truly harmful!

And the weight gain depressed me even more than I was depressed before I took anything! Granted some of my weight may be a part of the "time of life" i'm starting but not the amount I have put on in 3 months! hopefully changing meds and going back to Weight Watchers will get me back to a reasonable place.

Thank you for your input and thread....I haven't been getting the feedback or response to my queries about this subject....maybe your thread will bring more.

I wish all us well!

tooter--good to see you and glad you found your way back to a working medication for you.

here are some links to a thread here on PB Meds(http://preview.tinyurl.com/59jshe)discussing the different versions of wellbutrin xl and budeprion. there are links to who to complain to and how (FDA if you're in states)
