I couldn't have said it better. These would be my top three too. Except for #1, the enxiety continues well into the afternoon.

1. Psychomotor retardation (not as bad as it used to be before I became psychotic)

2. Ideas of reference (mostly under control now with Abilify)

3. Hypersomnia (nothing helps me with this anymore)

1. The D word (depression). Mood down to very down. Minimal pleasure. Want to be happy and know what it's like not to always want to die.
2. Anxiety related:
a. fear of death, rumination of what the hell this is all about, the universe, etc.
b. anxious emptiness (especially when alone) - feeling like I need to do something and at the same time conflicting with not wanting to do anything, which relates to:
3. Motivation. Which might be solved if the above two were solved.

I do have to be grateful that my previous agitation has minimized. That was awful.

1. Extreme lack of motivation, together with it's partner, massive procrastination, which is also a partner of #2

2. "Frozen anxiety" (don't know what to do next, how to, when to, IF I should, IF it's right or wrong, so how 'bout I do NOTHING)

3. Forgetfulness....um...

..whadiIjust write here? Darn #3! ah, well...too #2 to try and figure it out, so I'll just go back to comfortable #1 now.

Yup.

I just realized how I *may* sound.....sorry if somehow that post I just wrote sounds too flip for the thread. I in no way mean to trivialize any of the serious, sometimes life-threatening symptoms so many Babblers have to cope with daily. Never. I, too, have been down darker roads, but thank God right now I am so much better and these three happen to be my worst. I do know that makes me fortunate indeed.

Just trying to be light and post and feeling a little silly tonight (which for me is so much better than apathy...) Hope I didn't come across offensive.

Mine, as someone said is a multifaceted syndrome for which there is no single target.

So its hard for me to answer this question, and actually concentrating on symptoms can make them worse. At least for me anyhow. I have to look future forward.

====================

But if I were to say anything:

1. As much as possible of my visual (possibly somatiform, possibly OCD, its not a single target) that really interferes the most with life and gaining back bits and pieces of short term memory issues.

===================

2. My polemic view of life, again possibly from OCD and other anxiety spectrums, into the distant future beyond my parents who I am very close to.

The fear of living, basically. That's a hard concept to visualise, but it comes from feeling trapped in a very strange place and a disorder yet to be overcome to the best of my abilities, that I never imagined I would have with multiple catch-22s.

======================

3. A lack of a spark of true fascination (which may certainly come from depression and psychodynamic reasons) and interest in doing things that are beyond my hobbies, not which don't play a role in soothing my life.......

....but a focus, that will ultimately provide me with an income and..... HOPE. Hope is not something you can buy, or be given, it comes from within, and it is built like a muscle with things that produce self-confidence.

And I'm working on things towards that goal through therapy and there are little sparks which I may not realize, and I don't always see myself from the view of the multiple caregivers who have much trust in my future -- but who can see outside themselves -- that, is metaphysical in a way.

=========================

So these may not seem like true symptoms (but they are very real as Somatiform spectrum conditions are) -- they can seem like wishes and desires.

But they come from symtoms, as noted not for me not to dwell on what has happened to me much, except to acknowledge reality (which is very metaphysical -- someone's reality is not necessarily THE REALITY).

...Something I sometimes call The Here and Now. Not religiously, just acknowledging that I am the same capable individual inside all these layers, living with what I have in the present, and the future is something nobody can predict:

=============================

And yes, I am very sane, intelligent (no comparisons meant to anybody else -- we had a thread on that I believe), perhaps almost so self-aware of things that as noted I am way too hard on myself.

=========================

So I will end what is a long answer to a simple question:

======================

"Look to this day! For it is life, the very life of life. For yesterday is but a dream And tomorrow is only a vision But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness And tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day! Such is the salutation of the dawn."

- Kalidasa (ancient sanskrit, unknown vintage.)

This has been adopted over time.

1. Chronic tiredness from untreatable central sleep apnoea (= inability to concentrate, forgetfulness, facial twitching, headaches and probably is the root cause of my depression)

2. Lack of confidence / fear of failure

3. Knowing that my death would upset / damage my children long term

Linkadge, is there a prize on offer here? Did you find a magic lamp while beachcombing? If it's not a cure, I'd probably settle for a bottle of Nembutal & a plastic bag. ;)

I'm so sick & tired of feeling sick & tired....

I have only one I would love to have go away. This one trait gives way to a subset of other symptoms:

1) Lack of energy

First, let me say that this is a great topic. Thanks to Linkadge for posting it.

1. Complete, utter, entire, and profound lack of pleasure in anything.

2. The sadness/misery/despair I feel all the time.

3. Self-loathing and it's conjoined twin of self-punishment. (Not self-injury, only the very punitive internal criticism.)

I think those are my three. Hopelessness might replace either one or three, but I think those are the important ones.

If there's a magic wand involved, I do hope I am early in line...

Haaa..love that last line Racer. (Sorry about the others:( That line actually reminded me of some lines from a song where I got my handle/username from:

In the whole wide world
There's no magical place
So you mind as well rise
And put on your bravest face

And that is exactly what I think most of us do every freakin' day!..lol.

Peace,

so, Im really liking this thread, and I now realize I was not nearly specific as I could be so here's take 2

1) feeling absolutely overwhelmed by the world to the point that it gets smaller and smaller and I feel like I can't even move (and so I often don't), and in there is a fear of little bits of everything, it's about a lack of safety, a fear of judgment, a fear of failure, a fear of humiliation, being incredibly self conscious, a fear of being outside and vulnerable, a fear of total and complete rejection

2) becoming fixated on things, playing them over and over and over in my head, becoming angry, losing my perspective, being short tempered, feeling like there is just too much pressure in my head, like the throttle? is running way too high and its just building up and building up but it's not really going anywhere, feeling like I am a live, buzzing wire that is dangerous to be near

3) hopelessness and helplessness, hating everything, self hatred, utter despair, my "what's the point?" phases (I think this is where I get tired of fighting number 1 especially)

Linkadge,

I think you've hit on a new diagnostic tool. Look how easily people can identify their 3 biggest problems. Amazing. My pdoc has never asked me this in all these years. In fact, no doc has.

I'll tell him...!

Thanks :)

(g) it was a long one, wasn't it?....

The only thing I would omit is the "sane" remark, because that's sort of self-deprecating to me, and someone else might think that their condition is not "sane" as well -- a common thought in depression.
