Sleep Aids

Posted by Sky Brite Line on May 20, 2008, at 22:53:39

See at nigght i would hate to be "zone'd" on some other antipsychotic. Its really popular to use these days because of past barbiturarate and benzodiapine use ages.

I mean would this doctor even consider a barbiturate? i dont think so at all because first all i cant take it with another antianixety agent.

Next......the pain i go through every day....emotional (this doesnt count as anything these days) i just want to just sleep. But then its work again. Something to just knock it out out for a good 7 hours.

Im going to scream if he gives me seroqoul.

Well eventually all sleep aids come to an end. I can tell you since I have a serious sleep disorder which contributes comorbidly to my other problems.

And no, no doctor, let alone a psychiatrist, would rationally give barbiturates these days with licensing getting tougher except in certain serious conditions like tough epilepsy cases -- they don't have antidotes.

As far as sleep aids --- if you are not on any benzodiazepine, or very small amounts, then you have a good luck with Lunesta probably.

Otherwise, choices like Trazodone, doxepin, and amitriptyline will work --- for a while, say a month or two -- Trazodone might work even more for you, depends, but one keeps having to back and forth the dose usually because one gets used to it.

Its the merry go round of sleep aids, unfortunately.

Otherwise, one could get a sleep study, or try to stay up all day without napping until one is actually tired, exercise, all the things that I admittedly have trouble doing.

I know its hard

Hi.

20 years ago, I suffered total insomnia when taking Parnate 60mg + desipramine 150mg. The only thing that would work reliably was a combination of Halcion + Ativan. It worked consistently for the entire time I was on it - about 2.5 years.

Any thoughts?

Think you were lucky as even when on chloral hydrate, valium, seroquel 100mg, xanax, remeron l5mg in the hospital still didn't sleep more than four hours. Love Phillipa

I don't know what all you have tried already. I have severe, persistent insomnia, but Lunesta works for me (or at least, it worked great until I went on Wellbutrin...;(). For me, it's a lot more effective than Ambien.

Good ideas have already been mentioned. I agree with you on wanting to keep a safe distance from seroquel. It is popular, but personal opinion I think APs should be reserved for later after other things.

My fav was Lunesta. I don't think I ever had as hardcore sleep problems as others have, but there were times when it was quite severe, usually when stopping a med or adding a new one, and lunesta was reliable and yet friendly enough. Some of the others were fairly reliable but not friendly.

I have alot of past benzodiapine useage, it saved from panic attacks, now this doctor, well if i run from him he'll think im just running.
I have to be on some kind of benzodienpine during the day with out my head coming off or something...too much stress, panic and stuff.
This is what i dread is having to, see my other doctor was very very "old school" in using sedatives. He believed in benzodipies in sleep, but i was eventually fired, yes because of something confidecial, but it wasnt because of benzodiaines. Something else.

Well, i get so freaking restless at night, irrated, ill just get more irriated if im just "zon'k" out to the moon on some stupid antipsychotic.

Oh god.........................i could say every comment in the book right now.

I am not sure what other meds you take, but have you considered trazodone? I know it was mentioned earlier, I have been on it for 8 years or so. It is the only thing that has constantly worked for me in terms of sleep, and right now I'm using it to help make my evenings bearable while my new AD gets its act together.
