Now I know why clomipramine is most popular in EU

Posted by SalArmy4me on August 2, 2001, at 1:42:39

I started taking generic clomipramine 2 weeks ago at 250 qHS p.c. without initial titration. Within a week it worked, eliminating my painful flashbacks. I added Mirtazapine a week later, and that got rid of the sexual side-effects of clomipramine. Though I am still waiting for clomipramine's full effect to be known (a 6-week trial), I am finding that it is very tolerable with minimal sedation or anticholinergic side-effects. Clomipramine is the only thing that has worked for me, after having tried everything else known to mankind.

If the side effects are tolerable, the old tricyclics can work very well. My GP loves to add either Nortriptyline, Desipramine, or Clomipramine to ongoing SSRI treatment. Unlike you, when I tried Clomipramine the side effects were just way too intolerable. I'm glad that is not happening with you.

My favorite pdoc, now retired unfortunately, used to preach to me that the closer a drug is to correcting the real underlying chemical imbalance, the faster it will work, the lower the dose required, and the fewer the side effects. The farther away a med is from correcting the real problem, the higher the dose, the more side effects, and the longer it takes to work through chain reactions (if it ever works at all). Based on that observation, Clomipramine does indeed seem to be a good molecular match for you.

Is clomipramine still working for you?

Just checking to see if you are still here and if you still post. I would love to know what it was that you have that made you want to take clomipramine. My doc wants to prescribe it for me but I am scared.
