I'm going back to my previous cocktail

Posted by llurpsienoodle on February 29, 2008, at 11:33:26

Until recently, I was doing well on
50mg zoloft
5mg abilify
300mg lamictal
1mg klonopin (split)

Then I had a little psychotic flashback thingie and my pdoc upped my abilify to 10mg and gave me zyprexa 10mg (zydis) prn. It works like a charm. goodbye disturbing images. hello rest. I've taken it about 10 times in 3 mos.

I'm not having many ptsd symptoms right now, and therapy is pretty unremarkable. not a lot going on there. I think maybe I can reduce my abilify back down to 5mg. I want to give it a try anyways.

I've already reduced my benzo (klonopin) from 3mg daily to .25-.5mg daily. I did this by eliminating caffeine from my morning routine.

next- the AD. I had some breakthrough depression with suicidal ideation about 3 weeks ago, and pdoc increased my zoloft from 50mg to 100mg. I am having sexual side effects already, so 2 days ago, I decreased it by cutting one of my pills in half, so roughly 75 mg. so far I've been having dizziness, juicy mouth and nausea. General GI upset and vertigo, I guess. Nothing compared to going off of cymbalta.

I am officially non med-compliant. (shame on me).

My question- if I was stable on previous cocktail for several months, why not go back to it? I will always have the option of increasing doses, but when will I have the opportunity to decrease my dose?

Lurpsie only change one variable at a time or your will not know what is doing what. And if the new cocktail is helping please discuss with pdoc before stopping or cutting down. Phillipa

I do the same thing every once in awhile, mostly with my sleep meds, and find out quickly that the dosages I'm on are the correct ones. I know it sucks to be on a lot of meds, but not at the risk of relapse..I've stopped an AD only to find it won't work again..

So why tamper with success..as long as it's working for you now..cause you never know with these crazy meds just how long they'll stay working..sucks to have our brains sometimes doesn't it?

LL,

Sometimes you can't go back to the way things were.

I felt some effects for the first few days. Now I'm feeling better. Not so dead and apathetic. more spark.

One other thing is that I've tried adding back caffeine into my diet and it is a disaster. leaves me a twitching anxious mess. no more caffeine for me. :(

fortunately I have an unlimited supply of decaf coffee courtesy of my employer. (((((coffeeshop)))))
