Meds making me stoned--NEED HELP

Posted by mindart on January 5, 2008, at 15:25:45

I have bipolar II and peripheral neuropathy, and I need any info and/or experience people have with taking Lyrica in med cocktail with mood stabilizers, anti-depressant, klonopin. I added Lyrica for the nerve pain. I know I am over-medicated because since adding the Lyrica, I feel stoned for first half of the day and can't work. Lyrica works really well for relieving nerve pain but I'm too spaced out...any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been follwoing lyrica posts lately. Is it possible this will pass? How long have you been on it? From reading others posts here it seems that you need a dose at 150 mg or higher to counteract the sedation that low doses cause. What dose have you been on? Some posters here said lower doses are nothing like the higher doses.

Johnny I too have been following lyrica posts but for the sedation to try and wean off benzos. Do you know why above poster is stoned at his dose and I thought 25mg would sedate. What is considered a high dose for energy. Phillipa

What is your doseage? Could any other of your meds be contributing to the stoned feeling? Phillipa

I have lt's of experience w/ Lyrica. What is our dose and how long have you been on it? If it's jsut for sleep, I would take it 1.5-2 hours before bed to avoid some of the hang over. There are "Stoned" like side effects that disappear a little into treatment, but at high doses, I felt stoned and cognitively useless 24/7. Lyrica did that to me... Let me know if ou have any questions about the Lyrica. I know it well.

I would guess I would have to say that your are are somewhat blessed in that your meds really work for the neuropathey pain. From friends I know and what I have read, many people try all kinds of things to relieve their neuropathy pain with little success. I may be some what of a whimp -- but I think I would rather feel a little "stoned" and be without the pain.

The only suggestion I might put forth, if this is a major problem in your life, is that you might want to look at a product that Mother Dolores Hart (who is a spokesperson for the Neuropathy Assoc.)uses. It is a natural -- topically applied product called Thankful Hands. According to her testimony for the product it has made a major difference in her life.

On the Lyrica, I was supposed to go up to 150 mg 2x a day, but only made it 100 at night and 75 in AM, and I couldn't take the sedation and confusion anymore. So now I'm taking 50mg 3x a day, and I cut down on the Depakote, and that seems to be helping reduce the stoned feeling. It seems as though people are using Lyrica as a mood stabilizer or an anti-anxiety med...How much are people taking for either? Has anyone used it instead of Klonopin?

I would like to replace some of my valium with lyrica since I've been on it so it's ineffective. But a very very low dose. Phillipa

Nothing works quite like Lyrica or its cousin Neurontin. When I was on Neurontin I was sooo stoned. I felt like I was floating.

Amitryptaline (sp?) is suppose to good for pain, but I don't know if it works for nerve pain.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to tell you except I know how you feel. My friends thought I was smoking pot when I was on neurontin.

No, I was spaced out on it. Plus it gave me very bad edema ... I had to go into the hospital.

I "second" Maxime's experience. Except I put up with it for 2 years... Not my favorite drug, but YMMV as always.
