Crap, no sleep!

Posted by Maxime on December 3, 2007, at 10:08:39

It's happening again. I didn't sleep at all last night. Now I have a huge headache. I'm taking 200 mg of Seroquel ... you would think that would knock me out.

I can't go down this path again. I need to get better so I can return to work.

A tired

Hi Maxime,

Sorry about the insomnia. I know how bad it can get, and how hard it makes the next day in terms of functioning.

I noticed you were taken off clonazepam and trileptal (?) when you were in the hospital. While clonazepam is a benzo, it tends to be one of the poorer ones for a sleep aid. What do you think is causing the insomnia? Is it the addition of the Zoloft? I know Zoloft can cause insomnia. What do you think is going on?

Maxine, Hey I will give you one of my lexapro, first time I took it I slept almost 15 hours. And continued that until I reduced the dosage. I told the doctor that being less depressed didn't matter if I was asleep. Just kidding, I am so sorry you can't sleep. and on the information for it is supposed to cause extreme sleepiness but it does always describe the headache you mention. You have one of the mentioned se but not the other. I am so sorry. Can you call the p-doc and see if there is any suggestion he can give.

I wonder how long this is suppose to last the issues with the headaches etc. How about something to know the headache out. Can you take anything? rk

I don't know what is causing it. Maybe stress. I was suppose to return to work this week but I have delayed it to the new year. I am worried that they will fire me. But I can't go back to work now because I was just released from the hospital. I would crash and burn.

There was someone in the hospital who was taking Lexapro and she couldn't stay awake!

The headache is from lack of sleep. I took some Tylenol but it didn't touch it. I will probably have it all day.

Thanks for your input and empathy. :)

Maxime my guess is it's the worry and pressure of feeling you need to go back to work. Phillipa

My doctor told me last week that at low doses seroquel is sedating but that at higher doses of 200mg to 300mg it is not friendly to sleep. More is not better, as it works differently at higher doses.

That's interesting. It's like Remeron then. I can't change my dosage because I am not taking it for sleep. It is now my mood stabilizer.

I don't know about that, when I was on higher doses I once accidentally for the life of me I dont know how I got confused but I took Seroquel instead of my Valium dose... I barely drove across the bridge to my friend's apt. No, Seroquel is -normally- fatiguing in its first 6 hours. 1600mg of Seroquel and I was nearly out like a light.

On the other hand, second time, third time around, Seroquel just doesn't have some of the qualities it did -- unfortunately even non-addictive drugs can poop out a little. I take Trazodone for sleep , currently 150mg.

Hi Maxime,

Sorry I can't help you out as I'm experiencing the same problems as you. I read in an archive that you were on Nozinan for sleep at one point. Can you comment on what it was like?

I'm sorry that you are having trouble sleeping as well.

Yes, Nozinan works well. About 25 mg usually does the trick. I am going to ask my pdoc for some on Friday. It makes you sleep and you don't feel groogy in the morning .... well I never did.

Sleepless in Canada,
Maxime
