*Triggers* about suicide?

Posted by cactus on November 1, 2007, at 21:50:15

Ok, I'm 37 year old male and have been on and off loads of different meds over the past 14 years. I've seen 2 clinical psychologists, have done CBT and drug and alcohol counselling. I have had many GP's and I have only seen 1 pdoc who is very good and likes to try new options when things are heading south, he is very open minded and he sounds great compared to other pdocs family members and friends have seen. Never dismissing me or cutting me off. I pay for 1 hour and get 1 hour, and we have tried loads of combos over time.

But the thing I can't stand, more than anything thing else, is the thoughts of suicide that fill my head each and every day. It's getting worse as I get older whether I'm on meds or off them. Zoloft was the only one to shut it off, aside from alcohol which I stopped over 6 months ago. I started Zoloft about 3 months ago along with clonazepam and take 150mg of Zoloft and up to 6mg of clonazepam daily. I know that quite a few people might think it's the rivotril(clonazepam) get off it, but now the Zoloft has stopped working. This has been going on for years. I'm not about to kill myself peoples so don't worry, but I feel like when I exit this world, it will be my own doing. Can anyone else relate to that. I called in sick today because as soon as I hit the morning shower it starts with a vengence. Any ideas???? One very confused and fed up cactus.

My uneducated impression is that these
new antidepressants are weak in comparison
to the work horses of old- such as the
tricyclics, Haldol, etc.

Also, i think they tend to generate
anxiety.

Correct me if i am wrong anyone, but
i think an old AD is best for suicidal
tendencies, maybe even lithium.

Can't understand the new trend of prescribing
antipsychotics for BP I and BP II and Schizophrenia, such as Abilify. Is it truly
the mood that these drugs stabilize or
simply suppress like a heavy sedative?

I have no idea Squiggles, I just want my brain shut off without being turned into a walking zombie. I don't think we have abilify here.

Cactus for some abilfy can be activating others sedating . Seroquel will sedate you. But what Squiggles said is true the abilify, seroquel, resperidol, zyprexa, probably forgot one are antipschotics but some say will work to stabalize mood. I think I've heard that zyprexa can stop suicidal urges quite well. Good luck and keep us posted everywhere you posted. Phillipa

I LIKE it when people post to me :) makes me feel important and needed :) cared for

(even when it's an accident)

(((((((((((((((cactus))))))))))))))))))

abilify = aripiprazole. kind of activating/non-sedating for an antipsychotic. maybe a small dose of seroquel? it will calm you down and knock you OUT.

bedtime,

I take Lamictal, and am not drowsy at all on it. My pdoc said it can cause drowsiness, so recommended I take it at night, but I haven't found that.

I did not go to ER this morning. I
am fine. That benzo post is in response
to the fellow taking lithium and seroquel and
still having anxiety.

Sorry, about the mix-up-- i don't know how
it happened.

Phillipa, you must be a Nun, wasting your
time looking after everyone here. I am OK
because i am on lithium, but my memory
still resonates with the insults rising from ingratitude, lust, disrespect, greed, and selfishness. A stronger drug would do, but i am grateful with this one and feel sorry for those who may face a similar tirade with alternative medicine. Heh :-)
