Lyrica?

Posted by FA!TH on October 31, 2007, at 12:59:06

Thoughts, suggestions, anyone tried it? I was given an rx for it for my anxiety and GAD. Currently taking:

xanax 1mg 1 to 5 a day.
zoloft 75 @ bedtime.
gabapentin 300 mg @ bedtime.

My probs are GAD, depression, occasional panic attacks. I have done a lot of reading about it. It is supposed to be a new form of gabapentin, lower dosages, and fewer side affects. The only side affect I have with Gaba at this time is weight gain, and I hate it. But I have some pain, I don't know what from, and p-nurse asked if I wanted to try this Lyrica it's supposed to be very helpful to some with fibromyalgia and diabetes pain related probs, and amazingly enough, some people are saying it helps with their depression and anxiety. Anyone taken it or know someone who does? VERY mixed reviews and opinions out there, people seem to love it or hate it.

I love Lyrica! It's great for diabetic neuropathy, and depression and anxiety (GAD). You'll feel sedated at first (about a week) but keep ramping up...low dose = sedation, higher doses in the 5-600mg. a day range is excellent for depression and lack of energy. Good luck!

Faith, I wish you all the best. I had questions about Lyrica when I first began to take it almost a year ago and a wonderful young lady gave me the best advice I ever received which was the higher the dose, the better the result of remission from depression and anxiety. She also said it came with a price for some of leg/finger tingling as well as high weight gain. For me, she was correct but as you know everyone is different in their experiences. Most of all I wish you the best.

Lyrica is a sugar pill for me, does nothing at all for my depression, anxiety or diabetic neuropathy. No side effects or any effects. Cecilia

Lyrica changed my life. Most people who didn't get any good effect from it was taking small doses.

150mg is the VERY LEAST ... but a good target should be 300mg in the morning and before bed. Some people goes as far as 900mg BID.

The effect at high dose has NEARLY NOTHING to do with the high dose feeling. You cant try 75mg and try to figure out what it most feel to be on 300mg.

Btw, if some smart *ss [:)] tells you Lyrica is a new version of Gabapentin... thank him for the info then forget about it: The drug has been designed to be better than Gabapentin and replace it. IT'S NOT only stronger... it does things to your brain Gabapentin couldn't. It's not the same stuff at all. period.

Good luck!

Many thanks to you all for the information and the well wishes, this is always needed, eh? lol, I have the 75mg. She has instructed me to take 1@bedtime for one week; then 1 75mg 2x daily...ehm, lol, so up, up, up, we go it sounds like? This is very encouraging news here. I would love to be on only one medication, I know most of us would love to be taking nothing at all and feel "normal" but this is not possible for us so we experiment and we learn. I thank you all again and wish you all the very best as well. :) *hugs* I hope I don't have the weight gain with Lyrica, I sure do with the gaba, I'm only 5'4" and like to be around 120, I'm at 130 now and don't like it at all :( but I'd rather be a little overweight than anxious all of the time. So this might (at higher dose) actually give me some energy, too? Wow sounds to good to be true!! I'll keep you all informed with my progress and please let me know if any of you start having any probs ok? I do thank you all so much and all my best to your health, continued search for the perfect "cocktail" and most of all your happiness. I guess it's time to start wishing everyone happy holidays now, too. *SIGH* LOL <3

Back in 2006, King TORTURED me until I gave Lyrica a second trial BUT in MUCH HIGHER DOSE. The first time I tried it at about 25mg and felt miserable.. didn`t like the feeling and so saw no reason to try it a second time. King persuaded me to try it at 300mg BID and since them life is worth living :)

Thanks again King ;)

I have bad anxiety, worry, and ocd. I have a hard time tolerating meds but life is not good right now. I am med sensitive so am a little confused how to start lyrica if that is what my pdoc and I decide. What do you all suggest? I am feeling terrible.

I may try anafranil but I am really scared as ssri's make me feel so anxious. The only ssri I may consider is celexa.

-- 75mg BID for 2 days, 150mg BID for another 2 days than 300mg BID... this should be enough to make Anna Nicole Smith looking good again... if you know what I'm sayin ;)

> I may try anafranil but I am really scared as ssri's make me feel so anxious. The only ssri I may consider is celexa.
-- I see. If SSRI makes you anxious then you're right about Celexa and might want to avoid Paxil since it will hit too much on some buttons anxious people like us doesn't like too much to be pressed. IF you have the extra money, I would suggest that you choose Lexapro over Celexa. It, as you may already know, is the improved form of Celexa. Some says that it's only a matter of less Side-Effects while others (like me) thinks it works better. This has to do with is "Allosteric" nature/mechanism.

Wish you luck.. and if you didn't, dont forget to clear out all the possible physiological causes of depression/anxiety. Is a big job and may cost a lot of cash, energy and time... but can you imagine only to have to take high dose magnesium or something like that ? .. wow.. you would be happy, side effects free AND Anna Nicole Smith would keep looking like she is... dead ugly. :|

sorry for the disturbing humour of mine :)

Plz post your concern in a NEW thread.. it well deserve to have everybody attentions and so you could receive a lot more CLEVER answers ;)

Thank you Marty,

I needed a little boost right now. :)
Sleeping only 4 to 5 hours is taking a toll. Paxil was a complete disaster for me. I was freaked out. It seems I am a slow metabolizer so I read that celexa and anafranil hit another gene so I may do ok on it?? Agitation would not be good for me as my paxil experience was terrible.

I saw an endo and ruled out physical causes as much as possible. I know I have ocd/anxiety issues and am coming to terms that I need a med. It is deflating and makes me feel bad I need something but I need help.

> It seems I am a slow metabolizer so I read that celexa and anafranil hit another gene so I may do ok on it?? Agitation would not be good for me as my paxil experience was terrible.
-- From all the antidepressant I've tried, Lexapro was the less anxiogenic (followed by Celexa), Paxil was one the more anxiogenic, Effexor was also bad. I would go for it if I was you.. but give it at least 2 weeks before you judge the axiogenic level of it.

> It is deflating and makes me feel bad I need something but I need help.
-- Well.. it's WAY less deflating when you're less depressed. You know the quality of your judgement is very much affected by your state.. take that 'deflating' feeling and divise by 2, 3, 5 times and that's how you'll see the whole thing when you'll be yourself again.

Got to go... Anna's calling me through my tin foil hat. ;)

Please forgive my dear friend Marty's bizare sense of humor ;) I doubt a pdoc will let you titrate as fast as Marty recommended, however a fast titrate is okay with Lyrica...You may feel a little drunk/euphoric for the first couple of weeks, but what the hell's wrong with that, right? :) Good luck!!!

Drunk or euphoric would be a welcome reprieve from the long, long nights of just laying there wanting to sleep but the mind just keeps going.

I have even contemplated alcohol and that scares me as I am not a drinker but I understand how one does want to self medicate.

Since I metabolize slow I wonder if I would need less of a dose to get what you have achieved?

thank you

TR Atypical depression, OCD, and GAD. The Lyrica helps with the depression and anxiety. I have the type of OCD without compulsions and it has been pretty mild the last couple of years. But i do occasionally obssess about seeing Marty running naked on a beach..LOL ;)

-- LOL. While I agree most pdoc wouldn't want to grill their patient with an initial too much high dose of Lyrica, let me remind you that mind let me the freedom to start it at 600mg BID... actually my first dose of this second trial was 900mg (with a little 300mg upgrade a couple hours later) ... what can I say.. WOW? I wouldn't recommand that too anyone, but it was awesome.
