Hi all:
I suffer from excessive worry and get "stuck" on things and can't get them out of my head. For example, I often get a song stuck in my head for a very long time. This is often called an ear worm and they suck. I have pure obsessive type of OCD. Anxiety issues too, but since OCD is related to anxiety that is a given I guess.
Anyway, I can't take ssrri's as they give me horrible anxiety and benzo' are out too.
Is anyone on anafranil? Even at low doses I heard it can work well and I am very med sensitive. Any help would be appreciated.

I had been on Anafranil in the past. upto 100mgs. It works; but sedation, dry mouth plus apathy were very troublesome. I gained 20lbs on it within one year. Had to stop in favour of Zoloft.
For OCD, Seroquel works much better if you can tolerate the initial sedation. Or just take a small dose of Anafranil but mix it with an atypical AP like Seroquel or Zyprexa. Taking metformin with this combination will help you regulate your weight.
Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply. I tried seroquel and it was a disaster. Woke up every hour and was always out of it. At 25 mg it gave me akathisia. Weight is not a problem as I am too thin already. Apathy could be troublesome.

Chlomipramine is considered one of the most effective medication for the treatment of OCD, although i don't think that it helped me. Not to say that it made the symptoms of OCD worse.
I use to take it some years ago before SSRIs became popular. The biggest problem with it is its side-effect. It has strong anti-cholinergic action (constripation, dry mouth, photophobia, delirium) and it made me very nauseous.Since you say that you have anxiety you must not take chlomipramine alone! It will make you even more anxious! You have to take it along with a sedative, like a benzodiazepine.
