Ativan - how long does it last

Posted by JohnSky on September 14, 2007, at 15:39:19

Hello,

I know Ativan is a pretty short acting drug but I wondered how long it lasts before you need another dose if you take it daily? Is there some kind of rebound anxiety after a point if you wait too long?

John

For me personally many moons ago about six hours. But that's me. I imagine others will have different experiences. Phillipa

Ativan lasts usally noticabtly to me back then about 4-5 hours. Its been known always too last 6 hours but i think it depends on your metobolizim, and what you think its going last.

Not long enough, for me anyway. Have you considered a longer acting benzo like valium or klonopin(clonazepam) I think it's good that you were started on a short acting benzo. I don't think people should be prescribed long acting benzo's straight away. If you don't think it's working well enough ask for one that works all day. Other wise you have to keep popping ativan maybe 3 times a day compared to once with another drug. good luck it can be difficult to find one that works well for you.
