Is there good site or book re: psych meds/class ?

Posted by Fivefires on September 13, 2007, at 15:23:07

Does Tegretol belong with 'the mood stabilizers'?

I'm trying to educate myself re: pharmaceuticals, so I'm not always asking what a drug is used for or which class it is in etc etc. I've got this list going here but it's really a mess. I thought maybe there was a site out there (or even a book) available.(?)

Is there an up-to-date web site (or book) which breaks up psych meds into classes?

I know PDRs are great, but expensive & include all other meds.

One that I always check out is crazymeds.org

It is stressed at this site that they are NOT physicians. They do have meds broken down into classes.

Caution: The author uses language that may be too colorful for some! I find Jerod quite amusing.

I noticed the other day that they have recently updated some of the site. Not long ago there was some problem with hackers crashing their "talk" pages, but the med pages are working okay.

Maybe you will find this useful.

Good Luck, Janet

Unless it's something I can print out and put right in front of my face for a period of time, not a real good chance of putting med types and purposes to 'my' memory. ;[

But, I'll definitely try out crazymeds.

The attaching of colorful language here and there may be just what I need to learn and 'to remember'!

> I am sorry that this is not exactly the kind of book you are asking about, but incidentally does contain information about all the different classes of drugs and how they are given, how to wean off them etc.: It is "Your Drug May be Your Problem" by Dr. Peter Breggin and David Cohen. It was very helpful to me. thanks, tennisplayer

Here ya go:

http://www.crazymeds.org

The meds by class are on the left side of the main page with a separate scroller.

The website also has it's own Google search engine.
