I've heard some people take most of their dose at night to avoid daytime sleepiness--does that work?
I've felt very exhausted and sleepy lately, especially as it gets late in the evening. It's getting harder and harder to keep up with my studies, because the minute I start, all I want to do is sleep.
I'm wondering how other people on Nardil counteract this side-effect?
Any info greatly appreciated.

I also used to take the whole dose of 3 tabs (45 mg) the last thing before going to bed. That was pretty much how I did it for about 14 years until the "new" Nardil came onto the market & then I found that I had to take the dose 1st thing in the morning...or I would be awake all night.
The thing is, that the original Nardil formulation had a peak plasma concentration of around 4 hours after digesting the dose. The "new" formulation post-2003, has a peak plasma concentration at around 1.5 hours.

Sentience...good to know plasma level,my researcher MD said to take the whole dose at night, same as you 45 mg...Perhaps I will try to take in am as you are doing.
GI/ 2 things might help...as sentienceadvises and to add a mild stimulant or as I have done, add wellbutrin in the daytime. Countrainidcated but recommended by certian experts along with other mild doses of stims, including d-amphetamine or Ritalin or modafinil, with careful monitoring of the BP.

All I can say is with me it wore off with time and now I feel energised. Alcohol makes me sleep however, so perhaps is not a good mix.

I'm just doing what I have to do find normalcy in this life and I have to research and try things even when my doctor won't or isn't tuned into things that fall outside of the 'safe' guidelines, but I'm not taking big risks either since I always find a paper or journal that can guide me to try something he doesn't know anything about.
So many here are brave because they are always pushing the envelope too and yourself for trying to connect with others even when your comments are just to support or acknowledge one's despair. You have been brave to perserve in the face of other's criticisms and help those who others might not have anything to 'say' to.
Thanks Phillipa for helping others in the face of trying to help yourself. It is a day to day struggle we all face for a normal and life worth living.

Even though Nardil is working really well for me, I'm stuck with two side effects which it would be nice to eradicate. One is slight weight gain, about 4 lbs. The other is of course sexual dysfunction. I still find innumerable women attractive, so that bit is still intact. However there is numbness, erectile dysfuction and anorgasmia. I'm over 60 so you might argue it hardly matters, but I'm divorced and would like to find a partner to retire with. I'm afraid to try though as I feel I have nothing to offer in the sex line.
Has anyone tried bromocryptine? I'm told it induces nausea; hardly a good accompaniment to the sexual act. I used to hear a lot about cabergoline as well, but not recently. Has anyone any suggestions? I'm cutting my dose as instructed by some MAOI experts on the grounds that Nardil has done its job in mopping up most of the MAOI and now only needs a small amount of drug to mop it up as it arises. This is not so straightforward though, as Nardil has a strong pro-GABA effect. Perhaps with the help of Xanax this might be OK though.
All comments welcome
Thanks Fred

Hi Fred,
I would suggest that you start a new thread with your inquiry.
You'll get a lot more responses that way. You started your thread within somebody else's (my) thread, which is probably not a good idea, because (a) you won't get people's attention the way you'd get it with a new thread (b) you might get people to stop giving me advice, stealing way my original post's inquiry, which is not good for me either.
So that's my suggestion to you. I don't know anything about sexual side effects, so I can't really help in that. I don't think I've felt any sexual side effects on Nardil (yet) so I hope they don't come later.
Good luck
