My mother is trying to control my pychiatric docto

Posted by rjlockhart on July 11, 2007, at 21:32:50

Im 20 years old.

She goes in the session with me, aruges with my INFROUNT of the doctor that i dont need an increase on Prozac, "you just having some life issues and you dont need a 10mg increase just because of that" Im telling you i am MAD.

She goes in there with me, and im telling you right now she will fight her way in there, cause a scene in the doctor's office. And she will get her way. I have screamed and yelled and made BOUNDERIES but she overrides them and says their irrelevent you are going to live BY MY BOUNDIRIES or you out of this house.

Thats when me and her will scream and yell, i mean up in eachother's faces hard!

"No IM NO LONGER GOING TO LISTEN TO YOU" yea because she doesnt want to face the fact that she is stuborn. She is like talking to a brick wall. You can yell at her for days, and she still will make you miserable.

She is trying to control, she wont even listen to me because "i know what what you are going through, and its up to me to tell the doctor whats going on"

I signed a stupid weiver for her to come in to the sessions.

Im going to really be mad because we are going to the doctor's office tommorow.

If that is going on I would think an educated pdoc would see that and act accordingly. Love Phillipa

Those waivers are only good until/unless you rescind them. You are within your rights to say that you want to withdraw that waiver. And you can say that in front of the doctor.

I will advise that you say it to him, calmly, quietly, and not yelling at your mother. That advice is based on the idea that if you say it quietly and calmly, and your mother responds by yelling, your doctor might actually notice a problem.

Meanwhile, as you say, the doctor is the expert. Tell him as concisely as you can what you're experiencing, and let him decide what to do. You might have better luck, by the way, telling him what's going wrong, and what you want to address, and then letting him decide what sort of med change might be most beneficial. I know that I have a history of walking in there having tried to figure out what to do next, and saying that; rather than walking in saying, "These symptoms are still a problem, and I'm having this sort of problem with the meds -- what do you suggest?" Frankly, when i remember to do the latter, I've been getting better results...

Good luck tomorrow. I hope you will fill us in on what happens.

Hey you, both.

It turned out fine, i was increased Prozac to 40mg and and now on 18mg of Strattera for ADHD.

It worked out fine. I didnt know it was going to turn out like this.

I told my mom about strattera she didnt really thinik much, and she thinks every ADHD med is speed.

Im starting out on 18mg of Strattera, then 25mg, my doctor told me its non stimulant and explained it to my mother, and acts very much like an antidepresant (exept it target only norephephrine) SO NOW FINALLY I HAVE SOMETHING to help me atleast get me out of cloud 9, and get to my senses. I know it may not be as effective as Dextroamphatamine, or amphetamine, or really speed, or Dexedrine was but at least its an ADHD medication.

But its going to take a while for it to work. Like a month or so.

"****PRAY IT WORKS******"

Matt

Now i can maybe focus easier.

Matt,

Glad you are ok now, just to let you know, I'm 41 and my Mother still wants to have some control over my life and what medication I am taking, although she doesn't sound as dogmatic as your mother.

The one thing I have to say though and that is, I know you think your mum is interfering and she probably is but at least she cares enough to interfere, what if she couldn't care less about you and what you did, wouldn't that be even worse? She must love you.

Denise
