Jerry,
Just remember that for most of us it does not last forever. I've been where you are about three times but Nardil pulled me out. I haven't read enough of the threads to give you any advice on meds but there is usually something that works or ECT. If you're not seeing a P-DOC crawl into a clinic and tell them you need help. Sometimes just getting away from the everyday hassles helps.
Get Well,

Jerry, thanks for checking in, that's so important when you are feeling so badly to let those who may worry about you, know you are OK. I was worried when there was no message for awhile with not knowing made me think the worse.

Depression can go up and down hourly and I'm glad you were able to ride the waves and keep afloat.
It will get better once you find something that can help, whether its AD's or just talking with others, going through or having gone through the same thing. We're here for you.

I just got through a really bad period myself, down for over a year, unemployed and getting pretty desparate but now seeing some relief. I did do a few things for myself out of desparation. One, I told my doctor of 17 years I would not waste any more time since I just turned 50 and have seen more than half of my life wasted on this disease. Two, I sought out a research specialist and have him as a backup should I need really unconventional treatments such as Riluzole and Ketamine, which have shown some promise for really resistant cases.

Babble mail me anytime (going away this w/e) if you need more info on this treatment since I think you have tried just about everything else, right?

hang in...we're here most days helping out or getting help ourselves...It's a constant with depression...ongoing support and treatment.

Paul, I just wrote my message and it dissappeared...lets try again...

You have made the most difficult decision you could to go through the treatment and now the hard part is upon you.

Hang in there, it will get better and then you will have a whole new chance to get your life together. That can be the goal you can focus on to get you through this horrible time you are in. It will get easier but always gets harder first, to prove it will all be worth it. That's just how life is, the hardest things are the ones most worthwhile...

Keep a journal just to show yourself what you had to go through to get to the other side. It will be a reminder to never to go down that road again...Memory is always short sighted when it comes to really painful things like you are going through right now.

God bless you!!!-and may the good shine upon you!.

Alcohol bought me down to the floor, and while in detox the first few days, i wanted to be dead or insane, anything to remove the torment.

I was given 100mgs valium (what a joke to a benzo tolerant person) and was calling my folks begging them to bring in my Risperdal, Xanax, to starve off the torment-they refused-and i let them know !!!!

I had never been more insane in my life, and i was in a medical facility, what a joke! i was grabbing at the med cabinet for the 10mg Valium bottles, and had to be restrained.

NEVER again-kill me first.

Again i thank you and God bless:)

Jerry,

I can't really offer a lot of encourage or support right now as I don't feel so strong myself but I do relate. We're all in the same boat.

I hope you find something soon to make you feel better. Don't stop reaching out for help.

Jerry... for me a big part of my depression was that i felt as though my close friends and family didnt care about me and didnt want to be around me or associate with me. i felt like they were trying to "push my buttons" or make me feel bad.... sometimes it felt like they were picking on me so that i wouldnt come around them anymore....

the reality of the issue thouogh was that they were all trying their best to be supposrtive an helpful. it was my depression that was skewing my view of what they were doing and how they were treating me.....

the other factor is, people who have never had clinical depression simply dont understand the way you feel and simply think you need to be cheered up.....

i attribute 2 things to controlling clinical depression.

1. find a doctor you feel comfortable with and give them a fighting chance to help you. that means seeing them at least monthly for at least say 6 months before deciding they cant help...

2. talk to the people who are close to you. try to educate them about depression and how you feel when they interact with you. i printed out stuff from online about depression and gave them to those really close to me.

communication is the key element.

if you dont communicate neither will they...
when people try to be there for someone and it isnt appreciated or helpful they usually dont wanna try again

if you dont educate them they wont understand...
let them know what is helpful and what isnt. the more they know about the problem the better they can be at solving or helping it.

I'm applying for food stamps and some public aid - however, since I am not legally deemed DSIABLED - althought my medical history more than proves - I most likely will not get a medical card or finacial assistance. I also received a letter saying that I'm going to have to start to pay back my student loans since I dropped out of school (because of my depression).

It's not fair!!!!!! If I had a neck brace on, 3 casts, diebetes, cancer or anything I'd be SEEN visually as disabled and there'd be no question. But since it's a mood illness I have to do a song & dance to try to get them to belive me.

Fortunately I have an apt. to see an attorney about filing for SSI in a couple weeks. But who knows how long it will take - or if I'll even WIN my disability status.

I've gone through bankruptcy once and if I have to go through it again I'll be ruined forever.

Why do public aid case workers always look at you as if you're lying to them!?! It's as if I am guilty before proven innocent.

I"m really trying to get through this...but all the financial probblems, all my expenses, - it's almost not worth it to live. How can someone live like this?

I CANNOT hold down a job right now. I cannot go back to school yet - I am UNABLE TO - I am DISABLED. I need help. I've been on every medication for depression - every treatment - ECT, of-label, VNS implant, therapy - for 15 years...it's not fair!! My life is gone - most of my friends are gone - and my family is fed up. My brothers just told me to "get ou of yor rut!"

If Public Aid denies me tomorrow I don't know where I'll turn........there is no where to turn. Where can I get $60,000 to pay off my student loans? Will I be put in jal if I cant pay them? I have no income.? I'm so scattered...up against a brick wall and the grass doesn't look any greener on the other side.

thanks everyone for your support - it's all I have right now...seriously.

Jerry

Jerry, bottomline, you are disabled, so that is the way to go and focus on getting your mediction/treatment history in order and filing as soon as possible, either with or without an attorney. Your case is clearcut to me. If you want help doing that, babble me.

You have proven that your depression is treatment resistant based on what you have already gone through. You just need to apply and get approved. The public assistance thing I now nothing about, but I'm sure others can help you with that, but my sense is if you can't work with your depression, then you will get that assistance as well.

Stay focused on what you are entitled to during this time where you have tried everything and nothing is working. You are obviously in need of help at this time and those who determine this should be able to help you get this help. Again, just ask and don't get too discouraged before you are turned down. You should be approved with the right answers and documentation.

Hi Jerry,
Re: your student loans, ask for a medical or hardship deferrment. Or see if maybe you can just pay interest on it for a bit?

And you know, if bandruptcy has to happen, it has to happen. There is no "ruined forever." Yes it creates challenges, and that's really really difficult even if someone is not depressed. But you can recover from it.

Hang on to the tiniest flame of hope you have and protect it fiercely. It's what will always light the fire within to shine light on your soul and your life.

Debt is a civil matter in the US. There are no debtor's prisons, so take this off your list of worries. When you've hit bottom, things will get better. Thanks for posting.
Take care,

Right on, Jedi.

No one can 'do' anything to you over debts except try to intimidate you into paying. So don't let them. Stop taking their calls or opening the letters until you get on your feet.

When I had student loans they were always accomodating-just let them know that you are sick and trying to get better.

First things first. Food, shelter and medical care. The other crap will hold.

Thinking about you, Jerry.
