Johann, I dont get it, 12mg Emsam = less anxiety?

Posted by UgottaHaveHope on April 14, 2007, at 1:09:07

Johann: I also took Emsam for three months, primarily for generalized anxiety. I took the 6mg patch and it gave me extra energy, which did not help my anxiety. I took Klonopin and Seroquel to help counter that. My anxiety was 6-7 out of 10 on Emsam, but I wanted to try 10, therefore an am on second week of Nardil.

I was on Emsam's lowest dose, 6mg. That is interesting that you are taking highest dose (12mg) and feeling less anxiety. To me, it seems like more Emsam = more energy = more anxiety.

But perhaps Emsam is like ritalin, and has an opposite effect, such as the more you take the more relaxed you feel. Tell me more about how you are feeling these days on Emsam. Very intersted (will go back to if Nardil does not work after two months, and I guess I will try 12 since it is working for you, which makes me happy).

Michael I'd love to see you back on EMSAM. Just cause it seems you're having more problems on nardil. You know I care a whole bunch for you and you've gone out of your way for me. Love Phillipa

I'm guessing that the higher dose of Emsam effects MAO-A too. This is why there is a decrease in anxiety... just a thought

If I dont do 2 months on Nardil, will regret 4ever » Phillipa

Jan: I agree with you about Nardil, many more side effects. I think about Emsam all the time, and will switch back to it if Nardil does not work.

However, I have aspired my whole life to try Nardil. Yes, it has some nasty side effects, but many of those are supposed to lessen or go away all together over time. And if Nardil really works for you, from what some others say, there is no other drug out there that compares. After all, it has been on the market for 50+ years. It wouldve been tossed a long time ago if it wasnt helping ppl.

I started Nardil with the idea I would have side effects and all of them are tolerable. As much as I want to wimp out at times, I am going to do whatever it takes to make it at least 8 weeks and maybe 10 if that is what the pdoc recommends. I want to feel better, I want a better life, and this could be the way. Or it couldnt. However, I do know I will never know unless I try med. If Nardil does not work with full trial, then I can let it go forever and never look back.

Those who dont take chances dont make advances :)

My anxiety is not gone, but it's less. I haven't used any klonopin on an as-needed basis for a few months now, it seems, which is a pretty good measure. When I was at the lecture by the principal research of EMSAM, he said that it is known, off label, to work very well with panic disorder--and thus anxiety in general.

Let me know how you're doing with the Nardil. Since it's known to be particularly good with anxiety, maybe I should consider it.
