Do you have support from your family?

Posted by football on April 11, 2007, at 2:47:19

I do, and thank God. I don't know where I would be today without my parent's constant love and support.

Yeah man, I dont know how some of these ppl make it without family. Even though my family really has no idea what I am going through (it's like speaking Chinese), they have been incredibly supportive. Actually, at the current time I am staying with them because my old house sold and I will move into another one next month.

Thank you God for moms! Im a Momma's Boys and Proud of it. LOL

For the most part... more from some than from others. At first I really didn't have it from my immediate family --- it was really upsetting, but I do know

Yes, I feel the same. I really cannot imagine going through it all without the suport of my parents. Paradoxically, I also find it complicates things sometimes- I periodically get terrible guilt feelings because I know they suffer over this and would like nothing better than to somehow make it all OK for me. And I also worry I am putting unecessary strain on them- just recently I've been very bad and both my parents look literally sick with sorry. It pains me. But I don't think I would have managed to keep a semi-normal life going without their unconditional love, support, help and all that...

i've come a long way with my parents from going manic and crazy over a the past 2 years which i didnt post here what was going on.

They still love me, we forgive eachother that what matters.

But seriously if i had other parents i would be kicked out. Or sent to a hostpital.

There was a time when i thought i was gonig insane, for real reality was leaving, the unknown reality was coming, i was going to lose my mind, i went to a hospital, was evauated, dianosed symtoms of hypomania.

Medicated...

I do really give my mom and my stepdad a round of applause.

Matt

Not when I needed it. Only lately after 25 years of this charade are they "getting" it, but they still don't get it. NO one does unless they have depression. As much as they try and help they really can't unless they've had depression.

My mother's pat answer tome was "you must have your period" any time I was depressed. Or she would ask if I used drugs that messed my brain up. She didn't want to acknowledge the defective gene is in her family. I have only begun to understand all her relatives with mental illness, several bipolar, one schizophrenic, many unipolar, diagnosed and undiagnosed.

I think my mother has manic tendencies but since she never worked she was able to stay home and torture us without being found out. I mean torture in a mentally abusive way, not physical but nevertheless still as damaging. She would call me ugly, mean, crazy...say "no wonder no one likes you", "no wonder you have no friends". How's that for motherly love and support! Don't get me going...she is still a beaut. 85 and going strong! I always said built like a brick sh**house, strong and mean as nails!

I am sorry about your mother's treatment of you. My stepdad was the same way toward me, and is likely the root of my anxiety problems (he had high-pressure job, drank a lot, and then would explode at any of us kids for nothing. It was like walking through a minefield and unexpected fear is a terrible thing to go through).

However, I must say this: You (and Jan) completely exude LOVE. It comes out through your compassion and understanding in your posts. Hopefully, and this is what I am thinking, you have been able to use those wonderful qualities to make a network of supportive friends to help where you family didnt.
