Jump on the Nardil or Parnate bandwagon

Posted by UgottaHaveHope on April 8, 2007, at 15:59:19

Now is the time to do it. Youve got at least five or six on here who have started within the last month. They can answer your questions, take you through your experiences. Muster up the courage and ask your pdoc for Old Glory (Nardil or Parnate). Let's all follow each other down the road to recovery, once and for all. (For those taking SSRIs, we love you too).

Jump on! Choo choo!

I had great success with Parnate, but then it stopped working for me. I went back to it a couple of times and I couldn't tolerate it.

However, the fact that it did provide relief for me makes it an amazing med in my books!

If you haven't tried and SSRIs aren't cutting it (yeah, as if!), then try an MAOI!

what are the benefits over Emsam? (other than it hasn't worked for me yet). I haven't found Emsam to be energizing like most, I think I feel more sluggish and blah.

Maybe you could go up in dose in Parnate OR augment it with an TCA like SLS.

That would be my first thing, to take the 12mg patch.

Secondly, youve got to give it 6-7 weeks.

If it doesnt work by week eight, then consider Parnate. Then Parnate with a TCA.

Hang in there. Please be patient. Im rooting for you, Michael

No, I can't tolerate Parnate anymore. I used to take 80-100 mg with no side effects. I've tried to back on Parnate, but I can never get past 10 mg without getting an AWFUL headache. *shakes head* I don't understand why I can't tolerate it anymore.

sheesh, I had high hopes for parnate. I'm just on week four now and I'm chocca with side effects, major lethargy, dizziness, feeling cold and have yet to see any positives in this med whatsoever :(
I'm taking 10mg's twice per day. I can't figure why it's having such a negative effect, although I'd really like to stay on them a bit longer so at least I know for sure I gave it my best shot. has anyone been through this phase and managed to find a way through?
just recently I started to use small doses of provigil to try and rouse me out of my slumber. it's touch and go though, sometimes it helps, sometimes (like today) it doesn't.
should I stay, or should I go?

Please give Parnate two more weeks » stevezen

Youve been on it for four weeks, and I would hate for you to give up on now, especially since most ppl have it kick between 4-6 weeks.

I like you adding the Provogil.

I would consider upping the dose of Parnate like many do if it does not kick in within next 10 days.

There is also taking Parnate with TCA.

Hang in there! You are so close.

Hi,
I'm on my 2nd trial of Parnate after being on Nardil most of the last ten years. Even though you seem to be having some significant side effects, 20mg daily is probably not a high enough dosage. Your dosage will be more or less directly related to the degree of MAO Inhibition. I have titrated up to 80mg over the past six weeks and I still feel I'm not quite getting the results that I achieved with 90mg Nardil. I'm hoping the answer is more time because I'm afraid I've reached the limit that my doctor is comfortable prescribing. My main side effect is afternoon somnolence; this seems to be decreasing with time and the higher dosage. The good thing is that the intense sweet carbohydrate cravings I got with Nardil (and thus weight gain) is not nearly as bad for me on Parnate.

Good Luck, increase the dosage, and try to stick it out. Believe me, I know it is hard. After 40+ combination drug trials, the MAOIs plus clonazepam are the only meds that have worked for me.
Take care,
Jedi
