How many time does tianeptine to kick in?

Posted by lukeds on April 7, 2007, at 9:32:31

I have GAD, OCD and refractory depression, and I am tyred of waiting to the common antidepressants to act in vain. I have been on antidepressants of different kinds since 1994, and it seems that I need another kind of meds for my refractory depression (The GAD and OCD go well), so how many time does tianeptine to kick in (average)?

Lukeds.

PD: I am desperate!

Just a couple of days for me.

It seemed to work pretty much straight away (from the first dose), but maybe it got stronger.

Wow, a couple of days.

For what time are you taking tianeptine?

Which dosage do you take?

Do you have GAD and OCD too?

Do you have refractory depression?

I also found tianeptine to kick in fairly quickly, though it's hard to say how much time it took, exactly. It took somewhere between a three days and two weeks, I'd say.

I have OCD-like symptoms, anxiety, and depression, and for me it's moderately useful for all of those.

Maybe, something like that. Fear, certainly. Trouble relating to people well.

I have some depression, and have had it for ages.

Hi Declan,

What had you tried before trying tianeptine and with what results?

Hello Denise
Before tianeptine.
SAMe
Parnate
Deprenyl
Remeron (but not for long!)
moclobemide
benzos
suggestions from nutritional medicine

I have no experience of reuptake inhibitors

In the 70s I tried various APs like Stellazine, Anatensol, Largactil (lovely names!), Serenace. Mellerill was OK.
Then I tried opiates which were easier to handle and which I was reluctant to give up.

Currently I take round about 10mg/d Valium as well as the tianeptine.

Hello Denise
I just read your wonderful post about applying for the job.
Which made me think a little.
The thing for me about tianeptine was that it made me feel a little nice (like wanting to talk to people).
(This seems really unusual in psych drugs.)
It gave me a window of opportunity, which got me out of the house and stuff.
I don't think depression is likely to be a simple imbalance correctable by drug x or y (unless you are lucky).
I have been able to to *something* about my depression by improving my general health, and I'm lucky (informed, have help and money), so I'm not surprised other people find it next to impossible.
Thankyou for the story.
Declan

Hi Declan,

I'm glad you liked me story and thanks for answering my post. I'm suprised you haven't ever tried SSRIs.

I do believe (well in my case anyway) this depression has some sort of chemical element to it. I can't believe it is all just down to the way I think, I just can't believe it. I used to be very lucky well the first drug the doctor ever gave me worked really, reallly well and very quickly and then when that stopped helping me so much the second one worked really well too.

I however, didn't just take medication as soon as my depression struck. I spent from 17 to 24 feeling always below par (although never as bad as I do now) and thinking I had some sort of undiagnosed physical problem. I tried swimming every day which only made me feel worse and then the Doctor gave me prothiaden and all of a sudden I just didn't have to try anymore. It was great.

Not so great now though but there are drugs which do help to some degree and for that I am grateful.

Really, Elanor?

I've heard of someone taking 1/4tab 3 times a day.

I have been taking one tab of tianeptine first thing in the morning to help me get a little zippity-doo-dah going in my head. then trytophan later in the day.
And 10 mg adderall 2 or 3 times a day.
it seems okay for now. I'm working on a fast-paced project with a great deal of organizational work so I have some adrenaline in the mix too I imagine.

How are you doing on your meds?

I'm doing OK thanks. This is the best I've been in a long time. Not that great, but not bad either. I even had fun in Woolworths. The young man asked me how I was (twice). I said 'On my way home....I'm fine'. He said 'You better be', which made me laugh.

The tryptophan sounds like a good idea. I've found tryptophan (or 5htp) helps with amphetamine, and maybe it does with tianeptine too?
