Has anyone used Buprenorphine for depression?

Posted by shift on April 6, 2007, at 17:09:29

Has any one used Buprenorphine for depression? Does it work for agitated depression and is it available in Canada? Will Psychiatrists prescribe it for depression? Does it work long term? If it has worked for you please give me a bit of back round of how it has worked, thanks Shift

Buprenorphine is approved in Canada as an alternative to methadone for opiate withdrawal, but it is not yet available due to problems in drafting the regulatory monitoring system guidelines.

> Will Psychiatrists prescribe it for depression?

Not likely, at least initially. It would require a deliberate transgression of the prescribing guidelines.

There are numerous threads on the subject. Just scroll to the bottom of any post, and you'll find a Google search tool, defaulting to search Psycho-Babble. Plug in buprenorphine.

I find Buprenorphine very helpful for Social Anxiety, Depression & GAD

I only take it once a week or less though.

Even at this dosage there are problems, insomnia and horrible Constipation!
Although I do have IBS, which doesn't help

I'm not sure about the Risk/Benefit ratio for Bupe or other Opiates
There certainly are people who use Opiates for depression & there are even some studies
Good Luck

That's interesting, i've been considering an alternative to dex which i need to take a break from to restore it's effects. Can you describe your social anxiety as i feel there are many different flavours. How different do things feel on the Bupe?
Also, i don't know if you are aware but there are a few strategies you can use to decrease the risk of tolerance/ dependence, i can share if you're interested?
Thanks
Shaun.
