SSRI plus Klonopin

Posted by deniseuk190466 on April 8, 2007, at 8:31:49

How many people have added klonopin to an SSRI that wasn't working properly with good results?

How many people have been taking klonopin long term with good results?

Thanks.....Denise

I have taken klonopin with zoloft, celexa, lexapro, zoloft again and now for the last year prozac. For me it has been a miracle drug and I have not increased above .50-.75/day, usually only .50 at night and on stressful days I will add .125 in the morning and .125 in the afternoon. I have to keep SSRI doses very low so I don't get into a cyclothymic state. Klonopin (clonazepam for me) helps insomnia, social anxiety, neuropathic pain, GAD and sleeping panic attacks. This has been my regimen for at least 10 years with slight periods of attempting to go without any meds, trying herbal stuff. I always go back to a little SSRI and clonazepam. HTH, Jane

Until recently I was taking less than when I began on it 10 years. Great drug. Has unwarranted bad rep from people who use it for RECREATIONAL and not MEDICINAL reasons. Highly recommend it. Very safe.

antipsychotics really aren't that safe. Think about it: TD may be *less common* with the atypicals, but its not unknown. And..if the data on old-school APs is any indication, TD risk is cumulative and more common in people with affective problems.
So, I'd say Klonopin. Its kind of a mood stabilizer, so it might also make you feel more evened out.

I started taking Klonopin (for social anxiety)about 5 months ago. I also take Cymbalta (for depression), Ritalin (for fatigue & motivation), Buspar (for GAD -don't know if I still need), and low-dose Vicodin (for pain and mood.) Klonopin has changed my life. I had become a recluse and could not be around people at all, even relatives. I'm now perfectly comfortable going out and being with people. If only I didn't have so much physical pain - achiness and fatigue - I think I'd be normal.

How much Klonopin do you take? When do you take it, morning or bedtime or both?

I take .5 mg in the morning and again around 3:30 in the afternoon. That helps me get through both the day and evening. The Ritalin probably helps counteract the drowsiness Klonopin can cause. I do feel like napping around 4:30 but I don't let myself.
