Phillipa have you seen a sleep specialist?

Lack of sleep will wreak havoc on your mental state (I'm sure you know).

What about Xyrem?

I don't know much about it, but I'm sure others here do.

Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea?

Phillipa, take a look at this link below. It's from a random sleep center, but look at the second question under the "Frequently Asked Questions" section. It says that medicare covers sleep studies.

I know I don't have sleep aphnea. But my husband does and often wakes me when he stops breathing. He stops for quite a while but he sleeps like a baby. No meds. I cut down by l0mg of valium last two days. And I think the problem is the endo I saw broke my routine of taking my synthroid when I got up as it was with food. But all the other docs said it was fine if levels stable and they were for nine years. So I have a trigger as he said to wake-up first in the night and take it then. Obviously that has made matters worse. Love Phillipa

I've slept like crap for weeks despite trying both Ambien and Lunesta. I just got prescribed some Seroquel, which I'm gonna try for the first time tonight. I'll let you know how well it works tomorrow.

I also used to have severe sleep problems for many years but I am not sure whether it was the same problems as yours. It was very difficult to fall asleep but once asleep I could just sleep forever. And still I felt very tired during the day. Getting up in time was a major battle.

Medications that really made me sleep were Remeron and Mianserin. After taking a medium dose of one of these I would fall asleep within one hour, no matter what happened around me. They also have a very calming effect which could help your anxiety.

Taken at very high doses (above recommended doses) I experienced a strong antidepressive and activating effect but never any anxiety.

Good thing about these is that there is little risk of OD and they can be combined with most other meds.

Bad thing is weight gain. They may also impair driving until you get used to them and alcohol may hit a little harder.

Whether you choose Remeron or Mianserin is mainly a matter of price and availability. They are very similar.

I hope this can help you.

brgds Viking

I took remeron one time. It put me out within about 15 minutes, while I was sitting at the computer. For someone like myself who has had trouble falling asleep for years, it was a bizarre moment. I pretty much fell asleep in the middle of a word, barely got over to the couch and was asleep for over 12 hours-- a bit of a strong reaction.

At higher doses, the intensity of the soporific effect is supposed to be less-- for those who react that way.

Phillipa,

An antipsychotic Seroquel or10mg of Zyprexa, should help you to get to sleep. It should knock you out, for one night at least.

Was given them and for some reason for years wake in a few hours and have to repeat meds. They pulled me off them as they had me where I could think but not talk so wierd and this was in the hospital combined with remeron and chloral hydrate and benzos. I'm a work of art with sleep. Love Phillipa seems the later at night it gets the warmer I get like I should sleep during the day and be up all night. Maybe my wierd thyroid causes it who knows. I appreciate all the suggestions and don't think I don't research them.

Two weeks with no sleep?, you need serious help, like a couple Seconals!!

Maybe a couple glasses of wine with your 40mgs Valium, Xanax will do the trick?

Sleep loss will drive one crazy!

Sleeping the last three days in four hour increments and dropped the valium to 30mg and 20mg at bed and l 3mg lunesta and motrin and then four hours later l0mg valium and another lunesta. Pdoc called today I told him what I was doing with the meds his only concern was the two lunesta and the cost to me. Love Phillipa ps I really needed less valium.

You have been taking Valium for years ok? it probably isn't effective anymore, taking 20mgs at bed would last~8 hours and i don't see the point of taking 10mg more 4 hours later.

Your regime is working?. I got concerned when you stated you had not slept in two weeks.

Best of luck! didn't you used to take Seconal?

No no seconal only one time in labor false that is. And I've waken in four hour intervals for the last 40 years since my first was born. A Pattern and on no meds or anything at that time. So it's not the meds it's conditioning. Love Phillipa
