Klonopin vs Lyrica vs tegretol

Posted by Deniseuk190466 on April 7, 2007, at 13:09:54

Hi,

I know I've posted with a lot of questions lately but I'm not sure what to do next and I'm worried.

The lexapro which I've been taking at 10mg for a month (upped it to 20mg for another week) has been helping a bit but I've still been getting this constant anxiety and apathy on it. On Friday, I was feeling suicidally anxious again (all day), although managed to make it through an interview (which I didn't care less if I got the job because I was feeling sooo bad) and made it through the rest of the day at work but then had to take a Zyprexa in the evening because I knew I wasn't going to feel any better the next day.

I have tried adding Tegretol 400mg for a couple of days and it seemed to help with the anxiety but made me very tired (which was preferable to the anxiety really.

One Sunday when I'd been feeling quite anxious all day I thought what the hell and took 1mg of Klonopin. I didn't really notice much of a difference but my mum (without knowing I'd taken the klonopin) said I seemed like my normal self that evening.

Zyprexa helps but I still feel this restlessness after I've taken it.

I've also read that Lyrica is good for anxiety but have never taken it myself.

Has anyone on the board taken all of these drugs and how do they compare?

400mg Tegretol seemed to = less anxiety but very tired and sort of depressed, a bit more motivation.

10mg of Zyprexa = less anxiety but emotional blunting.

Klonopin = not sure, all I know is that I managed to get engrossed in the telly (without feeling restless all the time)and was a bit more chatty.

I would take Klonopin regularly if I thought it would help but then do worry about developing a tolerance.

I wish I could just be my old self again where things came naturally and I didn't have to worry about not feeling right all the time.

Thanks.....Denise

Denise if klonopin works for you than use it. Since I've been on benzos 35years tolerance is just starting. And by then there will be new meds . Good luck. Keep forgetting to ask my pdoc about the lyrica but hear it's great for anxiety at the lower doses and higher for energy. Love Phillipa

Thanks for the reassurance Phillipa,

I was just wondering if anyone on this board had tried all three and could give me a comparison.

I don't know if the psychiatrist would prescribe Klonopin and I'm not sure if it will help me, it just seemed to help me that night but I didn't take it again afterwards.

How much klonopin did you take and for how long.

I know that when I tried taking it one day on its own it didn't seem to do anything but make me more apathetic.

It was different though when added to the lexapro.

It's a shame you can't try the Lyrica for your anxiety, I did see the study where they found it was good for GAD. Have you not thought about trying Lyrica?

Denise yes I did think of lyrica. Forgot to mention it and doubt he will prescribe it as at this point with the heavy benzo dose he would think I'm drug seeking . It's controlled isn't it I read it was here.

I don't want to color your good response to klonopin. I didn't take it long . I won't even say how I felt other than much more depressed and I wasn't depressed then just anxiety tha xanax treated quite well. Love Phillipa ps hope you find that magic combo.
