Great. Just what I ****ing needed!

Posted by football on April 7, 2007, at 3:23:28

I was prescribed the antibiotic Bactrim a couple of days ago. Today, I have an itchy red rash all over my arms, face, and stomach, bloodshot eyes, a very stiff neck ,and sourness in my muscles and joints.

So now on top of all the Nardil side-effects I'm experiencing, I've got to deal with this ****!

UH!!!!

The monograph says to stop this med at once if you develop any skin rash or other reactions. See/call your doc as soon as you can.

This monograph is for IV bactrim, oral bactrim carries the same warning. All antibiotics cause allergic reactions is some people. The sulfa antibiotics have more allergic reactions than other antibiotics so they tend not to be used as much, but they are drugs of choice for some infections.

Yep, I agree with notfred, stop it at once and call your doc. Lots of other antibiotics to try.

A side note, when I took Bactrim XL (XR?) it made me hypomanic. Crazy experience. The doc didn't believe me, but you know, we can tell when something doesn't feel right. And boy do I hate that feeling. I was happy to stop that med.

Hope the rash gets better soon. BandAid makes an anti-itch gel that's cooling and soothing. You might try that in addition to whatever your doc recommends.

Sorry you have this on top of the Nardil SEs.

Hope it resolves fairly quickly.

The levoquin class of antibiotics made me a bit manic too. Love Phillipa and a rash is usally an allergic reaction . I agree call your doc.
