Well it's approved for GAD in Europe. I'd like to try it if it also helped with sleep or adhd even marginally. I doubt it would be as effective as a benzo, but mabye it could be beneficial if you're having problems with benzo tolerance. Have you mentioned it to your doc? Peace...Saturn.

I like Lyrica as an add on to either trazodone or doxepin for sleep. I'm currently on 20mg doxepin to help increase stage 4 sleep (I have Fibromyalgia and had no stage 4 sleep according to my last sleep study), and adding 25-50mg of Lyrica at night allows me to keep the doxepin dosage lower (and avoid side effects) and also seems to give me deeper sleep (subjective assessment). Lyrica also takes the edge off anxiety, though I need to be careful to keep the dose low or I'm too groggy during the day. Lyrica does cause some peripheral numbness.

Well in 26 years of taking MANY different meds for Depression/anxiety, Parnate and Lyrica have been by far the best..i would say they have worked equally well for me. But, i think (by far) more people respond well to Parnate then they do to Lyrica.

Monte but Parnate is for the depression type anxiety. I need the anxiety first type as my anxiety fuels depression in me. Love Phillipa ps you know I trust you

Cairo, where do you get the peripheral numbness from
Lyrica; in you hands, feet, or both?

For you i would go with the Lyrica. 50 mgs. bid can reduce anxiety tremendously.

I mostly feel it in my lips, believe it or not. I have some numbness in my fingers and feet all the time for other reasons, so I may not notice it there. Lyrica also has a tendency to lower my blood pressure. All in all, I'd rate pain relief and anxiety relief minimal, but I'm very sensitive to med side effects and can't go up to doses needed for relief.

That's interesting that you feel it mostly in
your lips...

The reason I asked is because I've been on
3600mg./day of Neurontin for the past three
years because of neuropathic pain due to
some[lumbar] spinal problem that's impinging on a
nerve. It works amazingly well[where narcotics
didn't], but I get tingling in my hands whenever
I hold them in some clenching position for more
than a minute or so, like writing or holding
my electric toothbrush. It goes away rather
quickly once the hand is 'free', but it's
rather bothersome/uncomfortable while it's
going on. I don't think I could write a
letter of any length now.

There is a chance I may go to Lyrica at some
point in the future, and I know the two drugs
are very similar in action but how close they
are chemically I don't know. Just wondered if
I'd have the same side effects on Lyrica as
Neurontin.

Sorry that you don't get pain relief from Lyrica
because you can't take sufficient doses.

Did you ever take Neurontin and if so did it
help?

I have nerve pain in my legs..diabetic neuropathy. Feels like bugs are biteng my lower legs and feet, lots of burning, stinging, overall VERY uncomfortable. Lyrica 300 mgs. a day completely eliminates this pain. I've been on both neurontin and Lyrica and i much prefer Lyrica, but that's just me, if it ain't broke don't fix it..neurontin is a good med as well.

That sounds awful..sorry Monte. I know some
people[not close friends though]with diabetic
neuropathy but had not heard the description
of it.

Why did you switch from Neurontin to Lyrica?

>>>> if it ain't broke don't fix it<<<<

That's what I think too...but it's good to
have a backup that hopefully would work as
well if needed like Lyrica.

Lots of sources[not on the boards here]
slam the 'off-label' use of Neurontin,
but if they suffered with the conditions
that are 'off-label', they'd be grateful
it was available. Narcotics didn't help
me a bit with the pain.

My Doc told me it was stronger then neurontin, for me Lyrica is much more helpful for depression/anxiety then the neurontin was. For pain i think neurontin is just as good.

That's a helpful 'side-effect'!

I know Neurontin is being used for anxiety/
depression/phobias/bipolar as well as for
pain; don't know how effective they are
for that.

Funny, but I'm not less anxious or less
depressed on Neurontin; maybe my
Parnate is blocking something?
I'd love to know but that's probably
going to remain a mystery...

From my own personal experience, i never 'felt' neurontin work at all. Lyrica, yes, you can feel it working.

Isn't it weird how individual reactions are?

Someone[sorry I forgot who]referred to Neurontin
as a 'zombie-maker'...

Do you have any side-effects that are
very annoying from Lyrica?

On Neurontin, I didn't have any change in
appetite, but I did have some increased
weight gain nonetheless...arrgghhhh.

Monte, Is the Lyrica still helping you for your anxiety? I am encouraged by your post a in February 2007. I would like to know if it is still helping you. Do you take any benzos as well or has Lyrica helped you to reduce any benzo use.

Yes it's working beautifully but my dose is up to 300 mgs. bid. I also take klonopin 3 mgs. daily.

Hi,

I think I remember you saying that Lyrica started to help your depression at 600mg a day. How long did you have to take it at that dose in order for it to help your depression.

Did it help with the depression at 300mg and if so how long did it take?

Also, do you know if it's ok to take it with Buspar and Seroxat?

Thanks.........Denise
