Hi CF.

What's up?

How long have you been working with this person?

> Differences re: Nardil and Parnate? Assume MAOIs?

What exactly did you want to know?

It's really not an easy question to answer as to which to try first unless there is a lot of anxiety or OCD involved, in which case, Nardil is indicated. Nardil is associated with weight gain and more prominent autonomic side effects. Parnate is generally more energizing, although some people experience daytime sleepiness. It is sometimes chosen first in bipolar disorder.

Parnate also has a short half life,so a lot of redosing is involved.Heres the skinny from my eyes.

--- Nardil effects will take time, wont be intialy robust, instead will kinda build its effect in a more solid manner, has an effect on gaba as well so more anxiety issues can be treated.

Main side effects are weight gain, and sexual dysfunction.

--- Parnate has a rapid onset, initaly might even feel amphetamine like, usualy response of some kind can be appearent in days.

--- Unlike nardil it doesent seem to buils,so its short life requires much more dosing and in my opinion a more possability of addiction.

-- Possably DECREASES gaba from what i read,so even when its sedating,it wont be the same as nardil.

Misconception that parnate is some aphmentine like drug, this is usualy the case only on its initial onset, after a while it has a general mood uplift and even notroious for fatique.

No known weigh gain, might even help libidi, some cases causes acne.

My view,

Nardil----- for the person not Needing TO BE ON A DRUG ASAP and can wait.

Parnate,....people on the loose end,bed ridden, pparnate can then be a lide saver, even if its only to use to you decide to switch to nardil.

This is the only thing I would disagree with. Despite its short half life, you can dose Parnate twice a day if you wish. Once it attaches to the MAO enzyme permanently, the blood level can be allowed to drop. I used to take 40mg at 8:00am and 40mg at 1:00-2:00pm. If low blood pressure becomes an issue, more frequent dosing might help, but I'm not sure about that.
