mild paranoia...

Posted by med_empowered on November 9, 2006, at 0:16:47

I dont know what to do. I dont want to go too into detail (b/c its embarassing) but I'm feeling mildly paranoid. Not "CIA is following me level," but quite uncomfortable.

What should I do?

Hey, I've got the same problem. You could try an AP, of course, but I have found that a combination of vitamin C, and choline bitartrate works very well. Niacine also has some antipsychotic qualities. I am supposed to be on seroquel, but am managing without.

When you say paranoia what exactly do you mean? For instance, I'm totally afraid of contamination, and I think nearly all organisations are corrupt and morally unjust and I don't trust figures in authority, particulary doctors, dentists, etc. This is paranoia???

Med you know meds better than anyone. You could assess you're discomfort and see if it goes away but maybe an antipsychotic for a bit at night? I know you dont like them. Love Phillipa

You may need to be a bit more specific. If you feel comfortable sharing. Different meds can help different forms of paranoia.

Hi Med

Did Abilify help with stuff like this when you took it previously? I know you hated it at high doses, but low doses can be really good.

Med,

what meds are you on?
i had moderate to high paranoia with parnate w/drawl.
very similar to amphetamine psychosis.
anti-psyhos are a bummer, but as far as my reading details, is that paranoia is likely due to exaggerated dopamine receptor sensitivity. so the theory goes that to down regulate DA receptor sensitivity you block DA activity with DA antagonist; ie the AntiPsycho's.

Personally though they're called tranquillizers, (tranquill), they sedate the hell outa me with dysphoric zombie state. Mood stabalizers may work as well; heard good things re valproic acid.

So either down taper. I think cold turkey is dangerous, or counterattack with a DA antagonist. Seroquel is the most common after the ER's fave haldol.

I'm not sure, but i've not found benzo's to help much.
And be careful what you tell your doc, as the minute you get labled bipolar most AD's go out the window, replaced by antipsychos or mood stabalizers. it's a big arguement wether drug induced mania/paranoia should qualify one as bipolar. but it's been seen ADs can exaserbate the cycling, particularly if they hit dopamine.

regarless; paranoia sucks. sometimes it helps to just face the fear and see the irrationality, rather than letting it linger as a possible reality.
