It's a good drug. Like caffiene w/out the jitters. For me it was weak, but helpful for awhile. If you like caffiene you'll like provigal.

You should be encouraged! It'll definitely give you a nice gentle lift, like caffiene but without the jitters. My brother takes it daily for chronic fatigue (been on it about a year) and he loves it. Best of Luck! :)

Surely hope. Well there's some hope. Yippee I say, as I sit like dead weight here in my chair w/ my wrists lying limply on the keyboard, a reach for each letter. I'm a slug, a 'duh .. what did you say?', non-expressive, non-vital, uninteresting, shell of a person. I better take Effexor-XR 75mg 2x a day regularly. P said ok.

My 2 cents worth... I have only been taking it for 1 week. I have found that when I take Provigil only without Ritalin (for ADHD) that I feel pretty good. The Ritalin seems to make me crash and burn in the afternoon but I have done pretty well so far on Provigil. My sleeping issues haven't improved although I don't think they've gotten any worse either. Hopefully it continues on a good path like it has so far.

I've been taking 200mg in the am for about 5 mos now. My AD makes me really really sleepy CRASH in the afternoon.

Provigil. well, basically you feel like YOU, minus the groggy drowsy.

different than caffeine. Caff makes me feel happy-hyper-twitchy! ProVigil makes me feel awake, but not UP!

Hope it works for you. My mom takes 200 (has sleeping disorder and narcolepsy) she reports fantastic AD effect, mood brightener. She's MUCH more alive than I remember her. :)

((((Mom))))

p.s. can you call pdoc and ask for samples?

Someone else mentioned 'crash' or 'crashing'.

Cf no like crashing.

So what's up w/ it?

Do you mean a dosage doesn't get you through the entire day? Is it a once a day .. extended release .. that doesn't extend long enough?

Believe he mentioned 200mg.

What time of day is it taken?

My computer is on phone line, so better get off, and will call Pdoc and pharmacy to see what's up. Check back later if anyone can share more.

Provigil is doing great. It is Ritalin that is/was making me crash. No more Ritalin for me!

I haven't tried provigil but I did take for quite a few months its close relative adrafinil. I liked it because it made me feel more alive without overstimulation and it was a decent antidepressant. It took a few weeks to really kick in. It was not an immediate acting stimulant.

I'm sure provigil and adrafinil have some noteworthy differences and they probably affect different people in different ways. But they are similar. I suspect I would like provigil based on my good experience with adrafinil. Thanks for the idea, I might even ask for it at my next doc appointment.

Well, mom was diagnosed as a teenager because she kept falling asleep in unusual circumstances. Algebra class, sure. Also at loud sporting events, or when she was talking to someone.

Of course, she never told anyone about her diagnosis until last year. It makes perfect sense, of course. She would be perfectly alert, driving down the freeway and then she would get super groggy voice and groggy eyes all of a sudden and pull over to the side of the freeway for a "power nap".

Well, 20 mins later, she'd be perfectly fine. 100% alert. Never knew when the groggies would hit her. It's scary. I yelled at her one time because I had OFFERED to drive, but she wanted to. Rather than embarrass herself by admitting that she needed to sleep, she actually fell asleep at a traffic light. I woke her up, and asked her if she wanted me to drive. "oh no, I'm fine- you just make sure I stay awake next time- keep talking to me, you know?"

talk to your pdoc. or even your GP. Mom's done sleep studies. she's good at falling asleep...

I may have crashed a few times in the late afternoon, but this might have also been breakthrough drowsiness from the medicine that had been sedating me in the first place. After I got used to provigil, (3-4 days?) I don't really remember that being a problm. Never had a problem falling asleep either. (but i take super-sedating drugs).

Once I accidentally took provigil with my evening meds (incl seroquel). I fell asleep fine, but woke up after an hour, feeling like I wanted to get up and DO something. I forced myself to lie in bed dancing and fidgeting :) . Wasn't til the next morning I realized my error. took another provigil and felt okay until about 4pm that day. ZONK!

Sounds like the way Effexor-XR works for me.

It doesn't hold out all day as an extended release. Have to take same dose that took in a.m. around 3-4p each day.

I guess it's depleted or never got to where it should have gotten, 'cuz it's gone' late afternoon. I can feel the lows .. the need .. its absence; metabolization problem.
