ANOTHER NEW ONE......HELP!

Posted by tjeffries on November 7, 2006, at 17:08:50

Ok, tried cymbalta, wellbutrin, couldn't deal with side effects on cymbalta as far as sexual, and sweating profusely, the wellbutrin caused major anxiety......now the Dr. wants to try me on prozac......said, they chances of sexual side effects and weight gain, are half and half, same as lexapro, but I tried lexapro, and was so sick to my stomach stopped after three days.....she was goin' to have me try lexapro again, and try to get through the side effects but thought prozac was about the same, as far as worryin' about weight and sexual problems......I told her I had to wait a bit, because I just tried these other two, and am tired of the starting and stopping, she said i could wait a few weeks, i need advice, and opinions....pls. help.

The bad news about any SSRI is that there's usually an adjustment period during which you're likely to have GI side effects. The good news, though, is that they usually pass pretty quickly. I just started Zoloft, and was queasy for a week -- quite nauseous, really -- but only for about a week.

If anxiety is a big problem for you, which is sounds as though it might be, you might want to give Lexapro another try. If you only managed three days on it, you were probably halfway through the start up effects. They really and truly do pass pretty quickly for most people.

I know it's frustrating to keep trying, and to have bad experiences with these drugs. I hope you'll give it a try, and that it works out better for you.

Good luck.

I kept failing one anti-depressant after another, until I finally listened to my doctor and took a low dose of Klonopin (a benzo) during the start-up phase. The Klonopin completely controlled the anxiety/agitation I had during the 2 weeks of start-up, and once I started feeling well on the anti-depressant, I stopped taking the Klonopin. In retrospect, if I had done this in the first place, it probably would have taken me weeks, not months, to feel well again. fluff
