I went to my doctor and got prescribed....

Posted by rjlockhart on October 17, 2006, at 20:09:57

i cannot say, but listen, there was some doctumentation that i had a history of abusing stimulants from an out patinet hospital, and my mother.

But i went today and currently prescribed a stimulant. I cant say. But my doctor just wrote the prescription.

My mom is something, she is so controlling that i could not see my doctor. I prayed to god that i could somehow get to the doctor, i did, and he covered me, let me just say that God/christ is real to me, i was praying until this day, he was with me, and this is something that i never thought would ever happen again. If we have any belivers please know that god will be with you.

Anyways, i am doing very well on this stimulant. But the only thing is my mom does come with me for my other medication refills, and evenually if i dont do something she will find out, on my meds list. Its not for anther 3 months, untill refill time. But i have got to put together somehting, because if she finds out i got prescribed it, the very medication that she said "no" to, she will yell, accuse the doctor, its not going to be pleasant.

But what i think im going to do is go back to the doctor tell him that my mother is coming, she always does, and tell him why she didnt want me on this.

If there is anyone, please, help me, i cant get on psychobabble at home, only when im at school, help me. I am eveually going to get off it, but the MAIN reason why i was prescbied this was to help me, and it does with ADHD. I lose track of everthing when im not medicated. And prayer.

But please if you pray. Please pray

S...O...S

Matt

Matt did you get my e-mail? Maybe post it on the board under the circumstances. No not a good idea you never know who is reading and not writing. But I've given you my advise via e-mail already. Love Phillipa ps turn your babblemail light off then you are safe on the registration board.Just scroll to the bottom of this and a place to click for registration is there

Matt, definitely turn off your babblemail option. You never know who will see your request, and who won't.

I'm sorry your mother is so hard to deal and communicate with.

Maybe there's some way your prescription can be filled by mail, so your Mother won't know about it.

Your absolute eagnerness to get your hands on stimulants is kinda suspicious. Coupled with your posts influenced by adderal way back, has anyone considered his mom might be right, and the abuse history might definitely indicate something? Just saying. I have add, and I just don't find it normal to be fiending for stimulants like this

Matt, why not open a free email account, like Yahoo or Excite? You could have babblemail directed there. My babblemail used to be directed to one of my free excite accounts. Then your mother wouldn't see it.

As for all the rest, did you speak with your doctor about the issues with your mother? What did he have to say about it all?

Also, Matt, I hate to say it but it does seem to me that Mike Lynch might have a bit of a point. Your posts in this thread don't sound like you -- they seem, how shall I say this? Speedy... Not in a good way. I wonder if you may be taking a bit much...

matt,
how old are you? I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with that frustration. I think the best thing would be to talk with your doctor about it, and if it goes well than to ask him/her to talk to your mom. Use your med as sparingly as possible, so it lasts even longer, you reduce your chance of abuse, and you prove to yourself, your doctor, and maybe at some point your mom, that it is safe for you to take it. God will take care of you regardless of what happens.

Racer I think he has to post quickly while he's still at school and his fear if coming off as speediness? I can only guess? Love Phillipa

Ditto that. I am ADHD and so are two of my kids. None of us have even been that frantic for a stimulant nor have my kids ever been so unable to function or get by in school without one; even though he received services through special school district for his ADHD. I suspect that there are 2 sides to that story and we are only getting one. I have no doubt that mom is way too controlling and trying to micromanage him but I have a feeling that there is far more to the story as to how and why that came to be than we are told about.

I hope that you can truly get the help that you need Matt no matter what that help might be. If your mom is that bad, then maybe you need a full time job, a roommate or two and college classes at night. It might take you some time to get the degree you want but maybe that's what it will take to start to heal you.

Are you seeing a therapist? rjlockhart

Matt, I don't think you've really answered that question? Are you seeing a therapist? How often? What does that therapist, if any, say about your situation and advise you to do?

Asked out of concern for you...

to be fair, though...

I dont take anything now, but it took me a while to get out of the "I need XXX for XXX" mindset. It wasn't even addictive drugs; I'd think sometimes "damn, I need a mood stabilizer" or "maybe Provigil would help..."

I think the whole mental-illness as disease model lends itself to thinking of pills as a solution to a specific problem. So, its kind of ridiculous to say its fine for a shrink to say "Stimulants are safe and effective treatment for ADHD" and then call this guy an addict-in-the-making because he thinks "I really need a stimulant for my ADHD". See what I'm saying? All he's doing is internalizing and personalizing the stuff shrinks have been spouting for years.

BTW--I'm not trying to knock people who do take meds; its a personal thing, and I'm sure some people feel much better, etc...I'm just saying that the mental illness/chemical imbalance paradigm lends itself to dependence on chemicals more than, say, a psychoanalytic paradigm or a behavioral paradigm. That said...its not necessarily better or worse than any other way of dealing with mental issues.
