Sleepy startling in the morning while on Nardil.

Posted by Larz on October 17, 2006, at 4:20:48

Hello, I am taking 45mg Nardil each day. I take 30mg on the morning and 15mg around 6pm. I get sometimes problems staying asleep at night but that is better now as I take some oxazepam or some anti-histamine around sleep time.

Despite I wake up rather energized on the morning, I still get some really bad sleep "attacks" two-three hours after I wake up. This happens especially while I sit down reading. I just get very drowsy, it goes away by washing my face with warm/cold water alt. However, if I fall a sleep then I would wake up immediately and involuntarly startle, feel like my brain got an electric shock and my head just jumps backwards. I sometimes make sounds as I get that. After the startle, all the drowsiness gets away and I am fully awake agian!!!!

Anyone have had similar experiences like this or can explain this for me?! Thanks

I've gotten exactly what you are describing on many different treatments. Most recently it was with ECT. I get drowsiness attacks, and then I have a fitful 5 or 10 minute nap where I keep starting awake. Quite uncomfortable actually.
